Ameriglo CAP Sights - Initial Impressions

I just got back from getting my new Ameriglo CAP Sights installed.

Initial impressions - they are very easy to acquire!

I don't know if the pictures do them justice (just my phone's camera). Also, I'm not at the range, so I can't show the contrast between the sights on a target.

I will do a range report later.

Front and rear sights (not a proper grip on the gun; I had a heck of a time getting the phone to focus)

    Front sight close-up

    Low light

Totally dark - focus on rear sight

Totally dark - focus on front sight

Ameriglo makes some fine sights for sure. I run the I-Dot Pros on my Glocks and Shield. They are a little taller than the CAPs.

    Nice pics.

I thought about getting those, but the CAP sights were cheaper, and my LGS had a gun in the shop with them on, so I got to see them before I bought them for my gun.

What should I expect at the range? Any changes in accuracy?

I didn't notice any changes, except quicker follow up shots.

I heard a rumor that they are making all of Glock's night sights now. I wonder if that is why they stopped selling for Ruger?

In really dark (almost pitch black) how do the CAP sights show up, specifically the rear one? I was reading their description and it was described as photo-luminescent, not your normal tritium. Looking at getting these for my glock and the price is certainly right.
I think guns are like insurance. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The one in the front is photo-luminescent and also has a tritium lamp in it. The rear one is just photo-luminescent (as you pointed out). If you out them in any kind of light for a couple of minutes, they both glow for several hours. If you leave them in total darkness and have to use the gun, the tritium lamp still illuminates the front sight.

As far as visibility, I have trijicon night sights on another gun, and the CAP sights are much more visible, IMO. The pairing of photo-luminescence and tritium is much more effective than just tritium alone.

The glow only lasts a couple hours though for the rear sight?

I think it is 24, but I haven't had them long enough to confirm this. I do know for certain that it lasts for several hours (5-6), but that is the longest I have tested it for so far.

Ameriglo makes my favorite night sights now. I am running or trying to run I-Dots on all of my guns. Er, both of them.
