    XS sights

Not sure if this is the right spot for this so please move if necessary!

Does anyone use the XS 24/7 big dot sights on their handgun? If so can you please give some impressions? I have the TruGlo TFOs on my Glock 23 and love them. I also have Trijicons on my Glock 22 night stand gun, thanks to a Christmas present from my brother this year.

But the design of the big dot sights look like they would work very well in close quarters, self-defense type situations. I assume the inner circle is used for low light with the wider outer white circle for daytime?

It's a point-n-punch system. Within 25 yds, cover what you want to hit with the dot- bullet goes "here". Beyond 25 yds, it is a regular 6 o'clock hold. Because of the design, you won't have "three-dot" accuracy at the longer range, but if you have more than 25 yards, you want your carbine anyway....

The tritium is sized to give decent glow, without getting large enough to increase its chance of broken, with hard use. Honestly, I'm more partial to the plain white dots, though I have both. In any measurable light, the dot is (to me) visible enough to index.

I have the Big Dots on my USPc and I like them very much. Rob72 said it. They're great for fast combat shooting, poor for fine target shooting.

FYI: you can get the "Standard" dot, but you may have to look for it. (Brownells has them in their catalogue). No practical difference in accuracy, compared to 3-dot, for me, when I first tried them. Having the Big Dot has opened things up a bit, but I think that can be corrected with practice and working my grip a bit harder.

i too have the 24/7 big dots on my G23, tritium front & white rear. they are tremendously quick to pick up no matter what the lighting. i can't recommend them highly enough really.

as a comparison, i have a set of trijicons on my G17. they're nice, but not quite as fast as the 24/7 big dots.

I just received a set of these this last week. At first I was hesitant about getting the big dot in fear that it was going to be too big but after installing them, its not that bad. I went to the range and pretty much shot the same as I did before (I need more range time ). Acquiring your target is much faster with these sights also. The Tritium as stated above is just right. Not too dim but not enough to make you loose concentration. I'd say buy them and if you dont like them just sell them. Heck, if I had another glock I'd buy them from you lol.

In my opinion XS Big Dots are the best defensive sight currently made. I put them on all my fighting guns.

Critics will claim you can't hit small targets or anything beyond X number of yards so I'll go ahead and post the counter video:

I have them on my Charles Daly Hi-Power.
    They're certainly not target sights.
But for combat or self defense they're awesome.
BIG, easy to pick up. crystal clear to my old eyes.

I have seen that video. I like how at 100 yrds Yeager jokes about no out-takes. Regardless, anything that allows you to acquire a fast and accurate sight on your target is excellent and almost expected for close range combat shooting. My carry gun's sole purpose is for self-defense. Target shooting I leave for other guns. With that said, I am thinking about getting the XS Big Dot for my Para Slim Hawg.

OK, behavioral studies show that in a self defense situation, you don't see the sights any way. As far as fast aquisition, there was nothing fast about the demo video; those were well aimed shots at targets beyond the self defense realm. Don't get me wrong, great shots at static targets under those circumstances, the video hasn't convinced me of anything. My question is: If self defense is their key marketing ploy, why not demonstrate somthing more practical and applicable to our concerns? I can hit a pepper with stock combat sights at 50; but just because I can, doesn't justify a deadly shoot; think about it, a 50 yd. shot and you're gonna claim life endangerment....wow; much less 100 yds. give me a break. After that ad, I want what ever those sights are less than ever.

You completely miss the point of the video.

We made the video because it is often said that XS Big Dots are useless beyond whatever distance someone can't make aimed shots. For some people that seems to be 5 feet and for some it's more like 10, 15 or 25 yards. The video was made to counter that fallacy because it's clear that you can make hits out to 100 yards with Big Dot sights.

The video doesn't show close range shooting because very few people argue that Big Dots don't work up close.

If studies show you aren't going to use your sights anyway (I don't believe this by the way) then why do you care about having sights on your pistol?

Have you ever been in a self defense shoot? I took 5 shots, scored on 4, and dropped one in his leg. I never saw my sights.

    I was was just fortunate.

dfoster9, I have heard other people with your same story. However, I also know many people that saw the flash sight picture before pulling the trigger. I would venture that it is a matter of training and needs. If you're one of the people that trains on a continual basis your probability of seeing the sights increases. With nothing to back my thoughts up, I would put forward the idea that your subconscious knows a thing or two about your ability. If you're capable of scoring hits without the use of sights, I would guess you would do so. However, if circumstances make that unlikely, I think you will use the sights to send rounds toward the BG.

Regardless, it is dangerous to assume that everyone else's experience will resemble your own. Or that future experience will resemble prior experience.
