Mobil-1 as Gun Lube......
Well, now that I have moved (again) I cant seem to find any of that wonderful Castrol FULL Synthetic gun lube that I used to be able to barely find.
So, I figured hell, why not try Full Synthetic motor oil?
You see, any type of lubrication I use, it MUST be synthetic. (Please, get your mind out of the gutter now lol)
I have found through my own extensive research that Full Synthetic is far better than anything else.
Whether its Full Synthetic Transmission fluid, motor oil even Power Steering fluid.
I have two vehicles. Ones a 2001 Nissan with over 200,000 miles on it already, and I have not had one problem with anything on it. The day I brought it home new, the dyno oil went out, and the Synthetic Mobil-1 went it the crankcase and the tranny.
The other is a 2005 Ford, same thing with A LOT of miles on it too. And to my surprise not one thing wrong with it. And trust me, its an American vehicle, Im REALLY surprised.
So Today, I wanted to try it out on my firearms. The Castrol Synthetic gun lube was made for guns. But since I cant find that around here, I gave the Mobil-1 motor oil a try.
It was about 19°F here today (this am) and I let my firearms that had just been lubed with 5w30 Mobil-1 sit in the cold for about two hours on my back porch. Mind you the wind chill made them much colder than 19°.
I blasted about 180 rounds out of my Beretta 8000 Cougar(9mm), then about 300 rounds out of my Romania AK-74. Both guns were constant magazine after magazine.
The Mobil-1 actually stayed on the points of lubrication in my firearms longer than the Castrol which was MADE for firearms.
I think Im going to see how well this stuff works for a longer trial peroid.
Anyone else do this? What did you think?

Never tried it, but sounds logical. Do a follow-up report!

Some folks use it on here. No problems reported. easy on the american vehicle bashing, my 200,000 + mile GMC might get mad.

I have used Mobil-1 some while now, that and Militech1.
I keep some in a Brownells syringe deal and can apply small drop to internals and that seems to have good persistence. It also holds well on slides.
The quart I have will have to be listed in my will - I'll never finish it myself

I've never heard of Mobil One being used on a gun. I'll have to try it. The more BG per box the better.

Been using all synthetic lubricants for about 12 yrs. Mobil 1 works well for MOST anything needing lubrication.
