vertical gun rack for truck
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place mods please move if it is.I'm looking for a vertical gun rack to be mounted in my truck. At this time it does not matter what kind because I will modify it to fit if I have to.The problem is that I can not find one,I can find the ones that go behind the seat or over head but not vertical.I'm thinking I will just have to make one,but I would atleast love to have a pic to go by.I'm glad that I shave my head because I would have pulled my hair out by know
.My truck is a 2000 chevyz71 I have taken my console out and will be puting it between the seats it's a standard cab I realy need this to work because it would really help me out on the farm.Any help would be great.

First, what kind of gun do you want to mount? Shotgun? AR? Hunting rifle?
Check out a local police cruiser. They usually have some form of mounting system up front. Although, with the laptops most departments have int he cruisers, the shotguns have been moved. But in a town near me, the cruisers have vertical mounted AR's between the driver and passenger front seats. The shotgun is mounted in a lock box at the top of the cage above the drivers head. Maybe you can rig up a bracket for one of those wall mount clamp type mounts designed to securely hold a shotgun. Hope this gives you something to go off...

Galls Public Safety Equipment. They sell to the general public as well. Below is direct link to "vehicle gun rack" page

If what you want isn't there, PM me for some more sources!

I have a Santa Cruz Gun Lock setup in my bedroom closet. It stores my "ready" home defense long gun. I have it so it can take my Rem 870, Bushmaster M4A3 5.56 Carbine or my Bushmaster 9mm Carbine.
I have the lock, the long mounting bar and the buttplate mount setup.
When I am home it is unlocked. When I leave it's locked.
Same setup as many police cruisers. Mine is keylocked. Cruisers usually are electrically unlocked with a key backup.

If you've got the skills they arent a big deal to make. Some 1" square tubing, some steel plate to attach it to the vehicle with sheet metal screws and a Galls gunlock and you've got it. I've made several for various police depts. over the years that worked out great.
Paint them with textured black paint and they look factory.

Vertical gun racks are no longer used in police vehicles. The dash area must remain clear due to the air bags and most of the front is now taken up with the laptop, radio console and other gear. In addition, the dash is not stong enough to mount the rack to as was possible many years back when the dash was steel. All racks are usually mounted to the safety screen/shield or in front of the front seat if possible.

I think it'll be OK to mount the vertical.
