    quick access safe

already own a med small safe, meant for valuables. and thats all its used for right now. (or handguns if going out of town)
so i have yet another xmas gift idea for the 'rents to get me.
a quick access safe meant for pistols.
i would like to have something that i can mount somewhere (under the bed or desk for example) or also in the car.
must be quick quick access and not expensive.

Harbor Freight has a small, sturdy digital safe made by Bunker Hill that is $19.95 and will hold all 6 of my handguns. Inside dimensions: 12"x7"x5" or just a little larger. Access time is 2 seconds or less and you can use a key to open it instead of the touch pad. There is a larger model that is $39.95 that I bought but do not recall the dimensions. It will hold a lot of ammo and all of the handguns. These were sale priced when I got them a few days ago...I went back and got 2 more of the small ones for the cars.

(The one that is listed at $49.95 is the larger one and the one listed at $39.95 is the smaller one.)

Even if they are not on sale, they are decent boxes. Being a locksmith, I can tell you that you can spend a large amount of cash and still get a box this small that does the same thing...keep honest people honest.

You could try this Friesepferd, available from Walmart online. Holds 2 pistols and has a 4-button combo pad. Runs off batteries or AC, also has keys in case the power goes out or batteries run down.

I've got one at bedside. Works pretty well. Definitely cost effective compared to the other ones out there.

I don't trust any quick access with my life. If it can break, it will. Mine are always available.

Thats all well and good - if you don't have young kids. I have a 5 and 7yr old. Leaving a loaded firearm freely accessible is not an option. And yes I HAVE had the talk with them about gun and safety, multiple times. But they are 5 and 7....when they get a bit older things will change, until then my ready access firearms and mags are in a small safe.
