Electronic muffs interference noise
I wanted a pair of these so I borrowed some old Peltor Electronic muffs from my dad. I don't know the model but they're tan and probably 7 years old.
Turns out they pick up the fluorescent lights in the range. I don't mean the sound the lights make, I mean the 60Hz interference form them making it impossible to hear. The lights are about 3-4 feet above my head where I shoot.
Is this the nature of them so a newer pair would do the same or have they improved the newer ones?

mine dont have problems with anything. but i have new peltor tac sport (i think thats what they are called).
they dont even pick up on my cell phone, which always makes speakers buzz, radar detectors go off, etc. multiple ppl at my range said my cell phone made their speakers buzz, but not mine

I've got the Peltor Tactical 7's and they dont do that. I've noticed that a friends Peltor 6's do. Mine seem generally quieter all the way around.
It could be the upgrade in circutry that makes the difference.

I have two pair...Peltor's I think...
Never a problem, work great...not cheap...but worth the safety factor of ear protection and the ability to still hear conversation...

Maybe give Peltor a call and and see if they can tell you if they have solved the problem or will solve it?

I have a set of the Peltor Swat Tacs, have never noticed any interference on them, but I do have a pair of cheaper electronic earmuffs and when I walk by my computer router(wireless) I do notice some some buzzing. Not from fluorescent lights tho. Is it from any fluorescent fixture or just the one in the range?

It's really bad at the range and in my kitchen with one 4' fluorescent it gets interference but it's not too bad.
I was wrong about brand. They are Silencio Rangesafe muffs. I don't know why I thought they were Peltors.

My 3 year old Peltors seem fine - mind you I shoot outdoors almost exclusively.
My main gripe is how they seem to turn on by some poltergeist means! The on/off switches are very soft and seems like they can too easily get switched on and drain batt's.
Overall tho - they are OK - time I got some new ones tho as these are gettin ''tired''!

I have the Peltor "Comtac". The electronic's are outstanding but they were fairly expensive. I purchased them after trying the Peltor Tactical 6S and there is no comparison in the electronics.
