    Took the cheap road..

Put a S&W flashlight on my shotgun for home security. Bought the plastic bracket at a local gun store and the S&W flashlight at Bi-Mart.

It held up ok for some 71/2 birdshot but when the 3" mag buck shot went off, the screw holding the bracket stripped off, the internal lens and bulbs shattered on the light. So now I'm left with a broken flashlight and a stripped screw.

Guess I'll spend a little more money next time..

Nice story dvickery. Makes those of us who spend way too much on "the best" stuff feel a little more justified. A little...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

While we are into clever sayings, here is one of mine:
    "Don't spend $20 to save $5."

Lesson learned, sometimes saving money a little longer is worth the wait.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

" Quality is like buying oats. Do you want them before or after the horse gets them? "
The situation will NEVER BE THE WAY YOU WANT, it WILL BE THE WAY IT IS. You must be FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO ADAPT and just "DEAL WITH IT".

Here's a recommendation, buy one of these:

SureFire M78 E2E/4L Flashlight Mount - Universal Clamp Mount .8" Ring w/ FREE UPS

Then buy any Surefire LED. Then mount one of these on your mag tube:

    Deluxe Universal Shotgun Tri-Rail Barrel Mount 5 - REMINGTON 870 by Combathunting.com

And when you're done you'll have a relatively low cost mount that is quality and will hold up to the shotgun blasts.

I spent a lot of time researching the best value set ups. I didn't want to spend hundereds but this rig is the most affordable I've found that's still very good quality. Mount the light in such a way that you can press the tail cap on/off with your knuckle or finger on the hand you pump with.

I'd recommend you stay away from a pigtail tailcap switch on the pump.

Then if you have an AR, you can mount a YHM dovetail angle mount ($16.00) on the bottom rail and you can use the thumbscrew to switch the light between either weapon. The universal mount can come off the light all together by just opening a cam lever. It's all very high quality and it's the best light weight easy way to put a light on a weapon and/or to share the light between two weapon systems.
