Anybody try Insights new light? The Procyon

I have an itch to get this light, and will probably get Insight to send me one... if they won't I'll just buy one. Before I potentially waste time/money/effort, does anybody has this yet?

I've been a fan of Todd Green's web site Pistol-Training.Com. When I saw the video he posted http://pistol-training.com/wp-conten...-ctc-small.mov showing his using the Procyon and read his remarks on The #1 Compact, Full Size, and Modified M&P Pistol Source :: MP-Pistol.com I bought one. I didn't have the pull to get Insight to send me one.

It fits well on my full size M&P 45. It does not extend past the muzzle so that it does not make the combo any longer. I did have to order a new SmartCarry with a wider pouch at the bottom to accommodate the Procyon.

I'm still learning how to use it effectively. I am not convinced that I can do away with my EDC light, a Surefire E2D LED Defender. My concern is using my weapon as a flashlight pointing device. I've read about the benefits of the strobe in disorienting those it is aimed at while preserving the ability of the user.

The ambidextrous controls are well placed on either side of the trigger guard. It seems well made and has superior fit and finish. I'm happy with mine.

If I can find my camera battery charger, I'll add pictures to this post.

No, you dont want a WML light to replace a flashlight, they are two different tools for two different jobs.

    You've confirmed my instincts. Thanks.

If I recall, you live in Ohio. If you are anywhere near me (Canton, OH) you are welcome to borrow my Procyon.

I am in Ohio, but in the opposite corner of the state. That is a nice offer, thanks. I used to live near Canton though a long time ago. Both in the Copley and Uniontown areas.

Not to hijack this thread... but since we are on the topic of Weapon Mounted Lights...

I have an Insight M3 on my G-23 with a Aker Nightguard concealment holster. It's kind of a bulky combination though.

I also have my XD9sc but do not have a tac light for it yet but will be getting one soon. Debating over the Insight X2 or the X2L (laser).

As a tactical team member I am a firm believer in the use of WML's. (Never as a replacement for an EDC hand held flashlight) but having a light mounted to the weapon has it's place and use.

Regarding decent concealment holsters for WML pistols I found these holsters someone suggested in another thread so I thought I'd place a link here to let you guys know about them and to get any thoughts. I'll be getting one for my XD soon since I already have a usable one for my Glock. If I really like it, I'll be getting one for my Glock too.

They are the Phantom Light Compatible Holsters available from The Malabar Front. They are made of thin kydex and are a true modular design in that with available accessories they can be configured for OWB, IWB, Pancake style and Tuckable. They are available for 1911's, Beretta's, Glocks, H&K's, Sigs, S&W & Springfield XD's.

    You can find them here.

Check them out and let me know what you think.

They still look bulky Bark'n, but I don't know that its possible to get away from that. I a huge believer in the WML, but I still am not convinced its practical for a EDC. LEO on a duty belt or for raid gear or on a HD gun for sure, not so sure on the CCW piece.

I just got one today and it puts my Glock Light and Streamlight Scorpion to shame. It's very bright at 125 lumens, where the other lights are 90-100. The light is much whiter and a larger area is lit up.

I contacted Procyon today and they confirmed this light uses the Cree Q5 LED.

Just got one a couple of days ago and put it on my FNP-40 nightstand gun. Haven't had a whole lot of time to play with it, but I'm pretty impressed so far. Super bright, easy to use controls, and a strobe! I think it'll complement my Streamlight Scorpion nicely.
