OK, We talked about holsters, now how about Gun Belts ????

OK, all you guys from the forum told me that good Gun Belts are just as important as a quality holster.

I went to Cabala's today all I could find was belts with the bullet holders going along the side. Probably not a good belt for concealment

So where do I find a gun belt to use for concealment ? Do I just get a quality Blue-Jean Belt that is thick and sturdy ?

If not, where do I go in purchasing a good quality gun-belt ?

What do I need to look for in a quality gun belt ?

    Thanks

Depends what you're trying to do. I think most of us love the Wilderness belts. But sometimes you need or want something that looks a little more conventional. There are plenty of choices to be had. My personal choice is a small company in Oklahoma City called Looper Leather. I have tried several, and they are the best I've found. Behind them there is Beltman who also makes a great product.

Several holster makers offer their own belts. After receiving my holster and measuring yesterday, I just fired off an order for a beltman belt.

If you want something prefabbed Galco makes pretty good gun belts. Regular jean belts are exactly what you want to avoid if possible.

Wilderness and Looper Leather are the two brands that I have multiples of...Beltman is great, but more expensive.

I like to buy my belt and magpouch from the same guy who made my holster. That way you get a consistent match in color and slot fit. I've seen surprising differences in belts from separate makers all marked 1.5".

Do not go to Cabelas, WalMart, Harbor Freight, or anywhere else but a holstermaker. A single ply belt will quickly begin to sag, no matter how thick it is. A double thickness, even thinner than those work belts, is more secure. Think of the added strength of plywood. The belt is as important, or more so, than the holster itself. It is your foundation. Plan on spending some big bucks, but it will last you forever (or until you outgrow them, like me).

I use Galco belts... very well made and they hold up well. I like their Contour Belt:

Galco holsters; Holsters; Gun holster, pistol holsters, western holsters, shoulder holsters, leather holster and Glock holsters

+1 for the beltman, I have two from him (brown & black) and they are fantastic.

I moved this from "guns" to "related gear" section since the discussion is about belts.

Wilderness Instructors Belt hands down. You can even hand drop gear off of it without it rolling over.

Here's a very good one that won't bust your budget.

Use caution with some of those inexpensive belts. There are several threads describing how they de-laminate or quickly wear out. With quality leather, you DO get what you pay for.

I hated to spend the money, but I FINALLY splurged and got a Beltman and I'm so glad I did.

While the majority of the belts at Cabela's aren't up to the task, there is one belt that is. The Cabela's Double Duty belt is a 1.5" wide, double thick belt that does a great job for me. I carry a full size XD40 in an MTAC, and it does a great job.
