Green vs. orange
I know for several years now that you needed to get AR mags with green followers or replace the black ones with green ones if they were the cheaper mags. Now I am seeing orange followers in some mags. Are these just orange because someone knows how to make them or what? Just looking for some info.

I have one 30 round AR magazine with an orange follower, and several extra green followers for rebuilds. All in all, I think the steel followers are best from what I've heard, and some of those green and orange followers won't fit my 20 rounders, or my Thermold or Orlite mags.

If you buy Magpul PMAG's you wont have to worry about the color of the follower. PMAG's are the best as far as I'm concerned.

The steel followers make no difference what so ever. Steel on aluminum sound like it would cause an increase in the potential for binding. In all reality, all of the pricey "anti tilt" followers don't make a huge difference. The green mil-spec followers have never caused any grief in my time. When the mags go bad it is usually due to a beat spring or mag lips that are out of spec. Just buy good mil spec mags or get the P-Mags.
Forgot to add. When they go bad, don't rebuild. Send to the training mag pile. When they get too bad for that, destroy them. That way they don't accidentally up in a weapon used for things other than training. Mags are consumables!

A lot of people were pestering Magpul about making high-vis followers. Whether this is a response to that feedback or happened to coincide with that feedback I don't know; thems some innovative folk in Boulder, CO.
Repeated for emphasis.

The Magpul followers are clearly a step ahead of the green followers. I now buy P Mags, but all of my GI mags now have the Magpul anti-tilt followers.
