Gun Safe - In Wall Install
I've been looking for a safe to store a few rifles as well as some hand guns.
I like the way this would fit in the (location I'm thinking of) and want to hear from someone that may have one.
How are the exterior locks?
Are there any interior shelves?
Solid well made unit that can also store ammo?
Homak Long Gun Wall Safe Recessed Design
Looks like it has two locks, that might be a problem if quick access is required.

Any addl comments, thanks.

It's not a safe designed for fast access. I'd say it's for long guns and such and if you want a another one for fast access near the bed per say then you will have to get something else. Just my two cents... hope it works out for you

Indeed. Looks like it'd be a nice, space saving solution for long guns or other guns that you don't use as standy/self-defense ready type guns so long as you have a spare spot between two wall studs.

I'd install it inside a closet so the clothes cover it.

I used to have one smilar to that in my other home. The master bedroom closet was essentially a panic room for us to retreat to if burglars ever got in while we were there.
As a previous poster stated, don't use that as a primary safe or even rely on it to be strong enough to repel a burglar for very long. My primary purpose in having one of those safes was to keep the weapons secure from the kids until they were older and trained in basic firearms safety. I plan on getting another as soon as I can afford it, but again, remember that a safe like that is nowhere near strong enough to keep a determined burglar out for any length of time.
For real security, you need a Fort Knox, or something along those lines made of 10 guage or 1/4" boiler plate....

I would be concerned about the construction of the safe. It looks kinda tinny. I agree with Hillbilly, I bet I could get into it with a flat bar and a hammer. Good concept but the website doesnt give gauges and thicknesses.

Mount it in the wall and then put the wifes full length mirror over it.
Keep a Mossberg by the bed.

Space saver, might keep the kids out, no other value. Will not store many firearms (as one of the reviews states, even scoped rifles whould be hard to fit). Can be opened with a crow bar in less than 5 minutes (or so).

Are there any other safes of the sort of higher quality?

It's a typical Homak safe, it's a great idea for the guy in an apartment with a coupple of long guns. it's not heavily made, but it will stop smash and grab types. There are quick release long guns options out there, this is not one of them.

Bingo...out of sight, out of mind. It's not a bad idea for a hundred bucks. As noted, it may not hold up to a determined thief but how many theives are after your clothes? It beats under the bed or wherever. It seems like I've seen a smaller one for pistols disguised as a fuse box somewhere before. Hmm...

Not directly related but just another idea for conceling a safe. I own an electrical contracting company and was working at an estate of a widowed millionare. As we were troubleshooting hundredes of unterminated wires left by here tinkering husband we found a full roll of gold coins in a sock. When we told here about them, she knew that they were there and said she would put them in the safe. Here is my point... she went to a closet that I had been in four or five times, grabed the pipe for the hot and cold shut off valves (the bathroom was on the opposite side of the wall) and lifed the panel up to revele a standard safe bolted to the floor. Her husband set this up and even used older pipes and shut off to look like it had always been there. The whole thing was just a diversion to what was really there. you can easily build for $30 + the safe
