    Concealed weapons instructor supplies...

I just took my class to become a Concealed Weapons Instructor here in Kentucky and everything went great! Now I'm trying to get my materials together and needed a little help with one item. Does anyone know where I can get one of those blue training pistols (maybe a Glock 17 or so) at a good price? Not a very exciting item to buy and was just trying to save a buck or two.

    Try here:

ASP Red Gun Firearm Training Replicas

    I got mine from here:

    http://www.nationalpolicesupply.com/...773239d0608700

but it took a long time, probably b/c I ordered an H&K P2000. They probably have Glocks & 1911s in stock.

Good luck on getting your instructor certification.

    Do you really need one?

We use a .45 caliber life sized squirt gun.

You know I was thinking about using something along those lines. Didn't know if it was too off the wall but I guess it's not. ha!

Midway and Brownells carry the Rings blue guns and ASP red guns. Streichers is good, but pricier, and CopsPlus will have EVERYTHING. Don't forget dummy ammo!

Yeah, you need dummy ammo so you can practice the jam clearing drills.

We use empty guns when showing technique. When actually teaching "Point Shoulder" we use the orange squirt gun.

We have bullets that are glued onto a board that we pass around in the class. They have common pistol bullets on them and expanded versions abouve them to give an idea. The calibers and weights are listed.

    Visual aids help alot.

I can sure do that one too. Thanks for the ideas... I appreciate it! Most of the material is very dry so going to try and make it as enjoyable as possible for them.

That is a fact. Especially if you are gun savy when you get there. You'll have to break it up a bit to keep people from getting bored.

Gotta say that when I was told to run the firing line (part of the "test" to be an instructor here) I was shocked that all 20 people were really new shooters. I just expected most people to be more seasoned I guess. No problem at all as helping them improve their form and shoot tighter groups was very rewarding but boy you have to watch them like a hawk don't you? A couple of them had stovepipes and their eyes got big as saucers and had no clue what to do. Had to REMIND them to keep that weapon pointed downrange until I could run over to them. Hey, at least I'll be prepared for the next batch, huh? ha!

We cover that in class. What to do,what not to do, and we give them a pretty good idea of what will happen on the firing line. If they enounter a problem with the gun,and they need help, have them place it on the bench, muzzle downrange of course, step back and wait for an instructor to get there to help.

I just use an electric airsoft gun (1911 model of course). I do not ever use the air soft gun for anything other than the class so it has never had a bb in it. The slide recoils back and it has the orange barrel tip. Cheap and effective.
