Question Purpose of Tac Light Flip Color Lenses

What benefit does the flip color lenses offer and what is purpose for the different colors?
I'm specifically referring to gun rail mounted lights such as the Streamlight TLR1.
    Thanks.

red light will help preserve your night vision compared to if you used a regular yellow or white. There are other applications for other color filters as well.

I have a blue filter for my surefire. When I'm crewing our helicopters, or working near one that's turning, I can use the blue filter to keep it from blooming out the pilots' and other crew members' NVG's. Then I can flip it to white again when it's safe. Blue is nearly invisible to NVG.

Red helps preserve night vision like stated above.

IR filters are great for tactical operators of any type. They can be on NVGs and have a spotlight that only they can see, then use it as a normal light when they flip it.

I'd say it's not worth too much for a flashlight that's just used as an every day flashlight, but the tactical applications are valuable.

If I remember correctly, the blue lens is also great for blood trailing.

Thanks folks. Sounds to me like it probably wouldn't have any great value just to use on a gun rail just for the home.
