Todays wood is Thinwin (tin-win). It's very much like Wenge, but it's harder and not as porous, so it's easier to finish. Also, some of it runs into purple shades instead of off black brown. When it's cut, it's brown and reacts with the air (it actually oxidizes) and turns to it's final color. Pretty cool stuff.
    Enjoy,

Todays set is Afzelia Xylay sapwood (the lighter, outer part of the wood). It's tough to find Xylay sapwood that has the 3D figure, but here it is.
    Hope you enjoy the pics!

Today I figured I'd go with a video that I made for youtube on what I call my "Handler Series". It seems these grips that I've been making by special order for a couple of years, are now hitting the main stream under the name of "tactical ovals". A customer alerted me to this. I figured I'd start putting them on my site. They do make a difference in felt recoil and follow up shots.
Anyway, I'm sorry about my being so ugly, but just pay attention to the grips, not the mug. :D
    Here you go:
    Enjoy,

Thanks QKS. I'm more than a little computer challenged. ;)
Todays wood is Walnut Burl. This block had a great range of color as well as the great pattern that you see. Of course there are many different looks to Walnut Burl. Well worth looking at as a way to dress up your pistol.
    Enjoy!

I have to apologize to the regular viewers of this thread......
I'm leaving the country for a week starting tomorrow morning and have been running 24/7 to get orders out and generally get things in order for the trip. This means that I haven't posted here as I normally would, and won't post new pics until tuesday June 21st. Not enough hours in a day!
Anyway, I hope you can be patient and meet me back here on the 21st.
    Thanks!

Well, I'm back from a great dive trip! Lot's of fun, but it's time to get back to the business at hand.......
Todays set is my favorite snake skin - Anaconda. With overlapping plates around 1/4" x 1/4", this stuff really does remind me of medieval armor. It's just flat out cool!
    Enjoy the pics!

Just because people always ask me if they can change things up a bit on an order, here's a set of Ivory recently done for a customer. As you can see, it's a departure from my "norm", with the MSH cutout, and flat plunger tube recess. Whether you're using me or any other custom grip maker, you should be able to get what YOU want done on your grips. If not, then find a different maker. After all, they are supposed to be CUSTOM grips aren't they?
    Enjoy,

Sarge, I can't pick a favorite. When I build my 1911 I KNOW who will be doing my grips. Your work is nothing short of amazing..great job on the snakes skin too.

The little Sig P238 has become popular for pocket carry and those owners should have choiced too, right? This is a P238 with crosscut Marblewood. Marblewood has some striking patterns when cut across the grain like you see here. Beautiful stuff!

Todays set is Desert Ironwood. Normally a dark brown to honey colored wood, it can have some striking patterns and color variations, especially in the burl portions. It is a very hard wood, which is good for hard use grips. Enjoy the pics!
