Next up is some beautiful Black and White Ebony. The cream and black are so mixed up that the overall color is a grey. This is a very cool look!

You never know where you're going to find gorgeous wood. I was driving to lunch and along the side of the road, I saw a stack of wood with a sign saying "free wood" hanging from it. The log on the end bottom had the signs of having great figure, so I pulled over and put it in the back. When I cut it up, boy was I surprised at the beauty! It took time to cut it up and then to properly dry it, but below is a small sample of the beauty the log held. All natural too! You just never know......

Burmese Rosewood is another great example of beautiful wood as you can see here in the pics. The gold colored base wood interrupted by the reddish veining is quite cool!

Todays set is Asian Satinwood. Great depth with some very cool jagged beeswing figure, this wood is great on a dark frame. Just more beautiful stuff that many never get to see........

Black Locust Burl is a cool and unique wood. It combines wonderful traditional burl coverage with dot burl eyes at times. Color ranges from light cream, to gold, to brown. In the pictures shown here, you can see a wide range of the colors. It also has the advantage of being quite hard and dense.

Todays wood is Thuya Burl, which comes to us from Madagascar. It actually grows in the ground underneath the tree, not ON the tree as most burls do. It is quite rare and STRICTLY controlled in it's harvest, so if you get a chance to pick some up, do it. Rich toffee brown color with rivers of grain flowing around the burl eyes - it's simply elegant and gorgeous.

Todays set is done in Prairie Rattlesnake. I really like this snakes pattern as it's smaller and more defined than that of the Diamondback. Both are beautiful, but I lean toward this one. ;)

Dot Ebony is a close relative of the Black and White Ebony that is so sought after. Much the same colors, but instead of sweeping black stripes going through the creamy base wood color, you have small streaks and dots of black. Very cool and beautiful stuff!

Nice Sarge. Your antler work is really super nice.

One of these days you are going to have to make a set of grips from a section of Narwhal yusk.
At $150.00 per lineal inch they would be very expensive finished grips these days though.
I made only one set once and sold them on Ebay years ago. You need to buy a fat section in order to save as much of the original surface as possible. I bought my section from Boone Trading Company and David Boone picked me out a suitable section & length. The spiral lines are still visible even when you do need to contour the surface to "1911 Grip" it.
Neat stuff for those of us that appreciate the bizarre, strange, and unusual.
I'm sorry that I sold them now.
The Narwhal tusk is another material believed to have great, mysterious power & once believed to be the mythical Unicorn Horn.

I've looked at that before......it's interesting stuff to be sure. That and the Oosik bone. :D
Todays set is something that QKS won't care for, but some will think is cool. ;) A customer recently ordered a set of stingray grips, but wanted his silver Texas stars inset into them. It's the first time I've ever inset anything into the pebbly surface of the stingray, but I think it came out well, and the customer loves them, so all is well.
    Hope you enjoy the pics!
