My wife recently started running along the river in the morning. At least at this point, she wouldn't consider carrying a gun to protect against potential 2 and 4 legged attackers. I would like to buy her a pepper spray (or similar) or a stun gun to carry.
Any advice on which? Also, specific brands/models recommended would be great.
I know, I know, I should get off my lazy behind and run with her. Until then..........

And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.
I absolutely agree and recommend the Kimber device or a tazer for anyone who doesn’t carry or doesn’t want to carry a firearm.

Neither, her heart rate will already be up when the combat stress kicks in. There is a damn good chance of her losing her/fine complex motor skills when it comes to using spray or a tazer. I would suggest a good rattan escrima stick. I believe she is more likely to have an issue with a dog that a human but in any case the stick is an overlooked and underrated tool. Not to mention visible to everyone, I think that is a deterrent to the two legged threats. At least this is what I would choose for my wife or daughter.
I am not a fan of the Tazer or the OC and have been on the receiving end of both (lots of OC) it is bad enough when people carry them because they cannot carry a gun, worse when they carry it because they don't want to carry a gun. This is like believing you can make an omelet without breaking some eggs. A rock in the hands of a determined man is worth more than a gun in the hands of someone who is not. Ask her how she feels about self defense and go from there. Mindset-Awarness-Training/Tools
After the recent discussions on the tazer, I would stick with spray.
Good post mercop but...couldn't the attacker grab a stick pretty easily?
