Where to buy steel drop plates?

    Hello!

I am looking for some steel drop plates for target practice with my 9mm. There are some steel plates where I shoot at that are set on a flat surface and just fall over (they are not attached to anything) when hit. There are about 6" - 8" in diameter and have a 1" or so pedestal.

Can someone give me some web links as to where I can buy these things?

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this is quite it, but lots of interesting targets.

I guess I will call them and get the straight scoop.

I just found that one as well! They look like nice stuff....VERY expensive. It looks like I'd have to pay nearly $200 for ONE target, which includes the stand, retension/resetting device and a target. Hmmm.

    Thanks!

All they are is a piece of hard steel with a foot welded on to it. Any decent machine shop/welding shop can make them for you.

milk jugs full of water are more fun
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

LOL regarding the milk jugs filled with water...that's so true! Blowing things up is way more fun than hitting a paper target.

Regarding getting the drop plates made by a local machine shop...great idea! I wonder if I should have a cant built in to it so it is leaning slightly forward as as to further minimize ricochet.

You can have them built any way you want, but a shot at 90 degrees to the target will have a lessor chance of ricochet that if the target is tilted. That said, targets should be well down range from shooters and there should be no one on either side of them.

Shoot lead instead of jacketed helps, too.

Well, here's the thing, in case you missed my first post. I do not want to shoot well down range. I will shoot no closer than 10 yards and no farther away than 15-20 yards with my 9mm.

That said, I will certainly pay extra for the ability to shoot from the distances I want. And, since I am at a public range I do not have th luxury of making sure I am the only one around.

You might look at the site, they have one of dx-iron that they say reduces ricochet. Also they have a reactive targets that the bullet passes thru, not as fun as steel though.

That said my range has a falling plate rack set up at I believe around 15 yards, never been a problem that I am aware of.

Just wanted to mention that plate rack is at the north berwick rod and gun club. North berwick, Maine, might be worth checking out if you live anywhere close.
