remind me not to pepper spray myself again...

I ordered a couple of these for my wife and I ASP Key Defender and they just got here today. We opened them up and put them on our keys and headed out to dinner. Well, I realized the business end of mine was loose, so I tightened it back up. I didn't feel any liquid and couldn't really smell anything noticeable.

Well...a few minutes later I kept getting the urge to sneeze (after I rubbed my nose once). Not thinking much of it, we continued our dinner conversation and my eye began twitching. I rubbed it (no big deal, right??) and suddenly WHAM!!! I could barely open my eye! After going to the bathroom and washing my hands VERY thoroughly I grabbed a paper towel and began rinsing/washing my eye.

It probably wasn't more than half a drop of spray...but wow! That stuff hurts!

I'll certainly be more careful next time...

Wow...you need to defend yourself from, well, yourself. I just started carrying OC spray about a month ago and haven't had any incidents yet. I carry it in my pocket on a ring with a small flashlight. I'm sure my turn will come sooner or later. At least you know it is effective!!!!!

This is why I have suggested that individuals who buy and plan to carry OC spray, buy an extra one to experiment with...preferably sprayed on a windy day. Some will come back to you...can you handle it in a parking lot with a BG trying to ruin your day?
How far does it spray effectively? How easy is a target to hit from 10-12 feet away?
I'd get another one and have both you and your wife practice a bit prior to HAVING to use it.OMOYMV

Big +1. Go to a park, pick a tree, and learn how to aim it. Learn if you can handle being downwind of the target tree. Learn how many times you can fire the unit. It is good to know these things.

Don't pepper spray yourself again, ( you said to remind you)

Someone makes practice containers - not sure who tho'.

Big question: If you were really pissed off, on drugs, really determined, etc, would that spray really stop you from causing harm to someone you were intent on harming? Just something to think about.

When I was a copper and we first got pepper spray we had to take a shot in the snoot during training! OH HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I was totally blind, had snot balls hanging to my knees and felt like I had just snorted the flame from a blow torch and it took me 2 days to get over it! Okay, maybe I'm remembering it worse than it was... no, no I'm not!

    Sounds like you got lucky.
I got accidentally dosed in my car back in highschool. My dad a LEO at the time kept a old can of OC spray that was well way past its experation date, it burst while I was driving....Now that sucks.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

That's very descriptive...I hope it has the same affect if I ever have to use it in SD. If I ever accidentally spice myself up, I hope you are exagerating. Thanks for the visual image either way.
