I am a big fan of Robar's NP3 and have it on several pistols, including my duty Sig P220. It makes the gun incredibly easy to clean; the powder residue will just wipe off with a dry rag in most instances. It is very corrosion resistant. As to wear, you will get bright spots or polished areas on some of the contact areas like the slide rails, or the edges of the slide from holster carry after some use; but overall pretty durable. Robar is easy to deal with, but turn-around times can vary from a couple weeks to a couple months depending on their back-log.

When I built up my SuperMatch M1A to sniper specs, I had ROBAR do a trigger job and apply NP3 internally and ROGARD externally. Now, I can fire a thousand rounds without lubing (the molecules bear off and provide self lubrication) AND All I have to do is wipe it down with a soft cloth to clean and run a couple of patches thru the bore.

My Sig 220 was issued to me in `85 and carried for five years. I bought it when I retired and had Robar apply the NP3. I carried it for 4 years when I worked for the courts.

It has more than 75,000 rounds through it and still looks as good as new:

    Np-3

Robar is great... Birdsong's Black/green T finish might be better...

I had a Beretta 96 coated (the mags also !) with the stuff. mag insert/ejection was so slick and easy

    Black T

One reason it's hard to get Birdsong's Black T done is that most of the SOCOM, SEAL and Homeland security heavy MGs are being done by Walter. They like the BT as it withstands the worst salt water conditions and is non-reflective... even to IR. Also self lubing. All internals are coated except inside the barrel. Walter has been doing their stuff for years. One of the only coatings that can stand up to the high cyclic rate of the MGs.

    Slightly Off Topic:
There is a new industrial tool finish that has been fairly recently developed in Pennsylvania.
It is so Ultra~Tough that it's absolutely un-freaking-real.
The only HUGE problem is that they are not doing firearms right now or small lot piece work.
I have already talked to one of their sales reps & one of their technical people on the phone.

They might be willing to do a slide and internal parts (for me) provided that I do all of the initial metal preparation myself..prior to their standard pre-cleaning process.
    No frame though. Bummer.

I'll stay in touch with forum folks should anything firearm/positive ever develop with them.
