Reloads for 40 Shield?
Just wondering if anyone has started playing at the bench yet. Anything to share from your cookbook? What's working, what's not. I've got 400 brass sitting around and the dies are new in the box for a couple of years now. I need more brass but this will get things started. Before ordering fmj's I wanted to see if there was anything out there to share. Looks like Berrys has Montana Gold beat by $20-25 per thousand. Thanks.
I load for the 40 (Glock, not SW), but for what it is worth, I tend to use Precision Delta 180 fmj bullets. They normally are less expensive than anything except lead and I find jacketed much more user friendly than plated. For powders for the 40 I MUCH prefer slower burning powders, especially WSF and Power Pistol. Low to mid-range loads with either powder at an OAL of 1.125 seems to be a nice range load. For light loads, take a look at: Make Right With a ".40 Lite"
40 has one load.
to down load it is to take some cards out of the deck...
its not a range gun
though my p239/40 is actually fun to shoot
its not a target round
though some guns do very well with it
suprisingly my SW40VE is more accurate than the Sig
it is a self defense round
and as such it should always be loaded to its 'normal' level.
the 357 SIG is the same in this regard--
designed around a 125gr jacketed bullet travling the speed of a 357 magnum for a similiar bbl length.
many other calibers are very flexable.
have fun with them
but than im the same with SASS in that i shot factory power rounds
...rather irked with sissy rounds that you can literally see going down range...
---->good post FLSlim. if you are going to go light, those are good numbers to work off of.
I just grabbed 250 Berry's cause that's all they had on the shelf. 155's. Of course they're plated and Ive got to determine the load compared to jacketed. I know it's different but I'm not sure how to adjust
For 40 S&W try WSF at 6.0 - 6.5 grains, OAL 1.125 for 155gr and 165gr MG or Rainier bullets. Accurate with reasonable recoil.
Anyone use lead yet in thier 40 Shield?
I just started reloading and have had great success with Bullseye under a Missouri Bullet Company 200 grain lead bullet
for my M&P 45C
Havent bought the die yet for my 40 cal Shield, but have been collecting brass.
So.... This thread has me interested
