English is my second language, I have been told my use of it is harsh, apologies if this is the matter.

Unfortunately decent is in the eye of the beholder. However, you will be getting lots of opinions on which is the most decent.

Did you mean HP-loaded cartridge, or a HP bullet (i.e., component) to reload?

Whoops! Probable Boo Boo on my part. I clicked on this thread and failed to notice that it was in "reloading" - I assumed & likely incorrectly - that he was looking for the best defensive cartridges in .45 COLT.

Many do sell decent HPs in .45. I'm glad you didn't ask for the "best" bullet.

It would help to know the purpose of these reloads--hunting, SD, rannge?
For hunting a hard-cast SWC is tough to beat, a HP not being necessarily more useful. For SD, there are many excellent brands also. But you'll open up that "Shoot what the LEOS shoot" can of worms.

I really like the Barnes 225gr XPB HP.

Same bullet Corbon uses in their 45LC DPX +P load. Down right brutal!!

    Easy answer, Hornady.

    Barnes, Hornady, Speer.

If it were me I'd look for a Gold Dot - since the Barnes bullets are expensive, and it's for self defense - the XTP in this caliber seems more suited for hunting in my opinion.

You match the weight and velocity of the projectile to the task, regardless of brand.

But with it being a 45 Colt, it doesnt really matter. A 250 weight swc at 800-to 900 fps will beat the hell out of just about anything else handgun wise for home or carry. When you get up to 41 to 45 caliber, its all good.
