Questions/opinions resizing 308 win brass up to 358 for a Savage model 99

I have a 358 win resizing die (Lee) and
since I have been having trouble finding
358 brass to reload,,,, I was wondering
what the general opinion is concerning this type
resizing,,,, Do you do a full resize or
just the neck. Just checking since I
will try both ways sooner or later.

The Savage being a lever action needs to be full length re sized.

The 99 lacks the caming force that a bolter has, so full-length sizing will ensure proper chambering. As for necking up a .308 to .358, anneal the neck and shoulder area first or it will get really work hardened.

+1 on the anneal, you might want to get a .338 expander ball also that way you bring the neck up in two stages much easier than doing it in one pass.

I used to have a .35 Whelen which is a necked up .30-06. I always used the ball method to expand. The most important thing to make sure is that the neck is well lubed to prevent case splitting. I sued to use STP to do it , but any lube that's pretty thick will work.

For necking up I use the Sinclare expanding mandrel. For the amount you're going up I would definitely use a 2 step process with FL resizing as the last step.

Most die makers offer a tapered expander for this process. If not use a .338 button first as msgt/ret suggested. If this is once fired brass "I" don't see a need to anneal when necking up.
