Depends on which powders you are using, if it is small charges of fast burning then all you need are regular primers, now for large charges of slower burning powders you will need the magnum primers. Be sure to refer to a reloading manual or the powder manufactures website for the proper primer to use.

I have used magnum primers and when I do I load a few thousands less powder due to the magnums being a hotter primer,I've never had a problem with rounds being too hot or over pressure, they do have warnings that say they are only suppose to be used in loads that call for them

    Can you use them? YES.

    Do you need them? NO

If you have a bunch that you just want to use up and have no other use for them, and the load for the .45 ACP isn't a max pressure load, plug them in and bang away. However, if the load is near max pressure and you switch anything, including primers, then you should back off and work up carefully watching for pressure signs along the way.

    +1 to GC.

Remember to drop down to the starting charge and work back up when changing primers.

I've been told Magnum primers would be OK if you back off 10% on your powder charge.
