    Question Dillon 450 press ?

There is a Dillon 450 for sale on my local forum for 175.00

This is the ad " 450 Dillon Press with the following shell plates: 38/357 mag, 45 ACP, 30-30, 7mm Mag, 30 Carbine and 22 Hornet. Has a Hornady powder measure w/powder bushing. Also a Lee scale goes with it."

Should I jump on this or try to buy a newer press somewhere else. I know ZERO about reloading but I'm a quick study.

Seems high to me........watch Craig list. I took my 450 and updated it to a 550. Makes switching dies a lot easier.

Thanks. I've got some money to spend but I'm trying to get into at least 3 to 5 stripped AR lowers. If this was a screaming deal I would reduce the # of lowers I'm going to buy, temporarily.

Call him up and offer 125.00 he might just take it. Try to see why no dies with the rig. I'll bet he upgraded.

I would build the AR's first ,they won't be banning reloaders and then get at least a 550 I love mine and am thinking about getting a 650 w/case feeder

Hotguns suggested the Dillon Square deal to me in another thread, I might just save some cash and get that.

I have been through this before on other threads. go to:

    https://www.dillonprecision.com/#/home.html

and compare prices between the 550 and the square deal. IF you are going to only load 1 caliber then the square deal is OK, however it is the caliber conversions that empty your wallet.

Compare the base price of the 550 and the square deal. The 550 is slighty higher.

Compare the caliber conversion, the 550 is a lot cheaper.

1 550 & 1 caliber conversion = 1 square deal & 1 caliber conversion Subsequence caliber conversion for the Square deal and the $$$$$$$ starts to add up.

From Dillon web site : My Bold and underlining

The Square DealB is only capable of loading the common straight walled pistol cartridges, uses a proprietary drop-in insert style die, and is a great compact reloader.
The 550 can load them (with the correct caliber conversion kit) all, except for the 50 Cal BMG. Just insert the reloading dies ( 1/2 price off Ebay) of your choice RCBS, Lyman ETC
    From dillon web site

    Dillon Square Deal 'B' $339.95

Dillon SDB Caliber Conversion Kit $76.95

    RL 550B $395.95

RL 550B Caliber Conversion Kit $40.95

    SDB + 1 calber conversion = $416.90

    550B + 1 caliber conversion = $436.90

550B can use any RCBS/Lyman type dies
SDB can only use Dillion SDB proprietary dies

Looks like I came to the right topic, my wife ordered a 550B for my X-Mas present! I've had my eye on this baby for years. Glad to see the great comments about Dillon Products!

Boz61 you live right up the street from me. I would like to talk to you more about your reloading experience as I am getting very very tired of paying 15-20 a box for 9mm and 40cal rounds.
