Senators seek to allow semi-automatics in D.C.

WASHINGTON - A gun bill is expected to be introduced in the Senate that would overturn many of the District's tough gun laws.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Jon tester (D-Mont.) are expected to introduce the Second Amendment Enforcement Act Tuesday.

The bill would repeal the District's ban on semi-automatic weapons and remove the requirement that guns be kept unloaded and disassembled when stored in the home or office.

It would also authorize District residents to buy guns and ammunition in Maryland and Virginia, and it would repeal registration requirements.

An email obtained by WTOP was sent to members of the Senate from tester's office seeking co-sponsors.

"The Second Amendment Enforcement Act finally secures for District residents the rights reinforced by the Supreme Court's decision in the District of Columbia v. Heller."

Many of the changes in the tester/McCain bill are the same as amendments that were attached to the D.C. Voting Rights Bill. Those amendments were characterized as "egregious" by the District's non-voting Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and the reason she had the Voting Rights Bill pulled at the last minute.

The bill does not open the door to open or concealed carry permits.
    Good baby step.

    OTOH

McCain is trying to show the people back in AZ that he is a conservative. He is going to be in a fight for his political survival in Nov. He has a strong opponent (republican) fighting for his senate seat.
As far as McCain goes, it may be too little too late. With that said, I wish them luck w/ less restrictive gun laws DC.

You know, McCain drives me nuts. I don't take him seriously anymore. All he ever does is what is politically expedient. Sometimes he's conservative, sometimes he's moderate, sometimes he's an independent, sometimes he's a maverick, and sometimes he's just some corporation's flunky.

So far as I'm concerned, he is not to be trusted. If he felt he needed to ban guns in order to get elected that is exactly what he would do! He has long since lost his backbone...

WOW! Lame Brain McCain knows which way the right-wing wind blows! Now he is even for border control! Forget his jive and Saturday Night Live and him wanting to be liked in D.C., Hollywood, and on Manhattan Island. He makes me sick. Can he still trick the hicks? Don't pout or shout! He has just about worn that old Vietnam Hero routine out. Note: Sarah Palin stupidly showed her loyalty to him by giving him her support, of course, instead of J.D. Hayworth, the true nationalist America First conservative candidate that the dim Dims and loony libs really hate. Ain't that great!

    The Bill...

    is at:

    http://www.wtop.com/docs/gunbillmccain.pdf

BTW -- I don't much care why he is doing it.

    , I'd be happy to see a blow-in-the-wind [fill-in-the-blank] file it.

Maybe enough blow-in-the-wind [fill-in-the-blank]'s who are afraid of the elections in both houses will get behind it.

'bout time some of them decided their job included voting the values of the folk back home.

Senator McCain has done nothing to protect the border in his home state during all these years...time to say to him.

It is true that DCs silly gun laws need to be changed.

Methinks that McCain is pandering to gun owners now that he is has some serious competition in the Republican primary in AZ. McCain is capable of turning on us in a minute.

McAmnesty is a bit of a hypocrit on this one, after all it was he and Lieberman who jinned up a bill to close the non-existent "gunshow loophole."

"2nd Amendment Enforcement Act" would be cleaning up alow of the laws around the country, along the lines of national permit-less CC and OC and remove all the local blanket bans and many of the more specific bans.

This is a "cleaning off old laws that don't apply after the supreme court said so act" But as was said it's needs to be done and is a step in the right direction so hopefully it gets some momentum built up.

John McCain made a serious stink in my county, as of late.

He's as unstable as the wind.

McCain is a RINO. He is afraid of loosing (he should be) so he is telling a bunch of lies to get re-elected. As soon as the election is over, he'll be back to his democrat buddies. See: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman.
He was for amnesty for illegals, and a leopard doesn't change it's spots.
Forget what he says, look at what he has done.

Well, I hope this law goes thru... and has the votes to over-ride Obama's veto.

McCain is like the branch of big tree, depends upon which direction the wind is blowing and how hard, but at least he does better than Obama... who's just hard-nosed socialist progressive.

Best wishes for DC but it's time for McCain to go to pasture. I intend to help that happen.

    Adios Senor McLame.

Sorry Jose, but you are too little too late. Where was McCain when we wanted to get a handle on the illegal alien issue over five years ago? Where was he in regards to wanting to enact strict enforcement of our immigration laws?

Sarah Palin lost me as a supporter for anything when she stumped for McLame. McLame lost me a long time ago. I just held my nose when I voted, and selected him as he was the lesser of two evils. Now AZ has the chance to put a real conservative into the Senate, and I hope they do.

God I miss Barry Goldwater. To think that AZ, which once sent the likes of Barry Goldwater to Washington would stoop so low as to send a person like McCain to the hallowed halls of the senate just makes me shake my head in shame.

McCain is in the political race of his life and I will do everything in my power to legally see that he loses. He is not a friend of gun owners. He is a politician that will shake your hand, lie to you and kiss your baby. In short, whatever it takes to get elected.

Shouldn't a "Second Amendment Enforcement Act" apply to the whole nation, especially places like NYC, Chicago, Kalifornia, etc.?
