This is a discussion on Dayton, Ohio, church groups get involved in local gun shows, too: within the The Second Amendment & Gun Legislation Discussion forums, part of the Related Topics category; Criminal background checks at gunshows wanted by group of churches...
I was under the impression that a church had to stay out of politics if it wanted to maintain its tax free status. Perhaps the IRS would be interested in the political activism of these churches?
Your impression would be wrong actually the Constitution is there to keep government/politics out of churches but nonetheless I think this issue is certainly not one any church I've pastored would be involved in. Actually the churches I've pastored usually has people carrying and who certainly are advocates of 2nd Amendment rights.
For a man interested only in passin' through, he suddenly found himself entangled in a deadly struggle….

As a christian myself, I must say this really pisses me off.
This is not the church's place at all. As a member of a nondenominational (COC) church, I strongly believe that a church's job is to teach the bible, and only the bible. They have no place in any political argument, and certainly not doing protests like this.
It makes me sick.

See you all at Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife Show, at Hara Arena, this weekend. I wonder if these black-PAC-preacher poverty pimps, with their perpetual professional-victim poop, will show up to peform and pose and lie with the Brady Bunch and Bloomturd herd and their lying rats and spies? Us gun gals and guys can have fun, looking at and talking about the guns and stuff, while likewise performing for their hidden cameras by giving them plenty of coarse clever comical comments concerning their learning. There seem to be very few baggy-pants wannabe gangstah and drug thugs there, maybe because they know that they cannot pass background checks at such and similar gun shows, or be sold firearms outside in the parking lot. I would not sell such people a gun.
Instead of a rally for background checks on honest people, why not have a rally to check on the backgrounds of criminals? Someone should be keeping an eye on them...![]()

I'm a pastor and I disagree with these church's opinion but it is not illegal for them to do so. The laws dealing with church involvement in politics deal with the endorsing of political candidates, not political stances. So a church can support or endorse a certain political stance but cannot endorse a particular candidate.

According to weather forecasts, Sunday will probably be a rainy day with a lot of water on and in the parking lot. They'll have to pay seven dollars, each and apiece, to enter Hara Arena and that will no doubt make them ***** and holler.
Bring out the cameras and the media microphones, and the gun-hating dumb will come from their churches and homes, for a romantic chance for some fleeting fame, folks who want to be quoted and to be seen on TV screens, if you know what I mean. Kodaks will make them attack with PACs, with or without reality, reason or facts.
Those churches need to mind their business, and this is beyond their purview.

Ugh. There are a lot of mis-guided churches out there. I've yet to find one that I'm willing to transfer my membership to since leaving Atlanta. As a Christian, I find this horrifying, as it drives folks away from the faith.
