Sen. Jackson, put together one good argument and opinion there. That's well said.

Glad you now have it. Here, you can almost carry anywhere unless it's posted, and there have been no issues with carrying in bars, restaurants, etc.

The only shootings in bars have been gang-related one's, by thugs with illegal guns, who wouldn't pay any attention to the laws, etc. anyway.

alrighty. If you didnt know, there was some argument as to whether it went into law when overturned (friday) or when it was signed in (ends up, today).
well so now there is no more argument. here you go.... the official document:

    http://state.tn.us/sos/acts/106/pub/pc1009.pdf

print it off and keep it in your car if you are going to do something like OC, but I CC so im not really worried about it. Im just so glad I can now legally carry when I go out to eat!

So, just to doublecheck, this has been signed into law and we're now legal to carry in any restaraunt that isn't posted, correct?

Correct, although, the circle/slash with gun is now legal posting.

The "Public Chapter 1009" is the number assigned to it by the Secretary of State and THAT is when it officially becomes law, yes?

The effective date noted in the Public Chapter is 4 June 2010.

As noted above, be aware that the "circle-and-slash" posting is now a legal posting notice.

Also note that they put more teeth into the "thou shalt not drink and carry" provision. Any consumption at all within the confines of an establishment that serves will cost you plenty! I think this was to appease once and for all the "there's gonna be a bunch of armed drunks loose" crowd. It also eased up a whole lot on the posting requirements, so we won some and we lost some (at least on the posting side).

There is official Pub. Ch. 1009 assignement on the Gen Assembly website with a date of June 21. Be safe, be sober, be active.

Well, now that we've enjoyed the moment, and rightfully so, let's start pushing for a Vermont type carry and return from a state licensed privilege to carry back to a right.

Thinking back about the court's decision though, it was really a blessing in disguise. While it's true we had to wait another year, it's now clearer and better than it would have been. For me it was well worth the wait.

Either way it is now June 27th, so it's legal in TN now correct? I'm just double checking.

I emailed John Harris (TFA) 22-Jun about this, he said, and I quote,

"It went into effect 6/4/10. Its public chapter 1009."
