Guns are hazardas materials in NM?

I'm in NM(LAS VEGAS) near Sante Fe getting ready for a prairie dog hunt tommorrow. I was watching the news at my hotel and the local news came on channel 14. The reporter said a local land fill will accept hazard materials. The reporter said batteries old medicine liquid chemicals and firearms will be accepted. Old appliances and computers will not be accepted. Whiskey tango foxtrot!

I'm tempted to say, "when you're an illegal alien"... but I won't.

Landfills don't like accepting live ammunition. Just assume the news readers and writers are completely clueless (that's a big stretch, I know) so they may read "ammunition" and mentally categorize that as "firearms."
