52 shot, 8 dead and mayor daley still resists self-defense

BELLEVUE, WA - Fifty-two people shot, eight of them fatally in a single Chicago weekend, yet Mayor Richard Daley appears poised to go down screaming in his opposition to the Second Amendment Foundation's lawsuit to overturn his city's handgun ban.

The U.S. Supreme Court could rule any day on the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, filed by SAF, the Illinois State Rifle Association and four Chicago residents. That ruling will likely strike down the handgun ban, thus opening the door to legal self-defense by Windy City residents.

"Chicago has become a slaughterhouse," said SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, "where defenseless victims are terrorized by armed thugs who have taken full advantage of an unarmed populace. Daley and his predecessors who perpetuated this ban are wading knee-deep in the blood of hundreds of crime victims who should have had the means to defend themselves.

"Year after year the statistics have piled up," he continued, "yet Mayor Daley has stubbornly defended the city's ban. While he has luxuriated at his vacation home with the safety of armed bodyguards, the bodies of Chicago crime victims have stacked up like cordwood.

"Within days," Gottlieb observed, "we should have a ruling from the Supreme Court that puts an end to this insanity, and gives the citizens of Chicago back their right to defend themselves. Daley thinks his constituents should be content to call 911 and wait for help to arrive while they're being shot, stabbed, raped, robbed or beaten. Those crimes happen fast, and when seconds count, Chicago police are minutes away.

"We took Daley to court because we trust his citizens more than he does with their self-defense rights," Gottlieb concluded. "Chicago residents have endured the terror of public disarmament for almost three decades, and all they have to show for it is a body count. Mayor Daley should be ashamed."

The Second Amendment Foundation (Second Amendment Foundation Online) is the nations oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and an amicus brief and fund for the Emerson case holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

Only The Fuhrer Daley, his bodyguards, and his CAGE henchmen are allowed to carry weapons for their protection. Everyone else is criminal and cannot be trusted.

Couple of nights ago, his police chief was on TV encouraging the law-abiding citizens of the affected neighborhoods to "take back their streets". Not sure how they're going to do that since they're not supposed to have any weapons. Try and have a gathering or a "concerned citizens meeting" on your front lawn and you'll probably get shot. Maybe a prayer vigil - they seem to be big on that.

Here is the link to the ABC report. They get it wrong in that they note guns are plentiful in Chicago, but they don't mention that this is only with criminals and that law abiding citizens are not allowed to have guns.

I think Chicago should erect a wall, like the Vietnam Wall for all the citizens who have willingly given their lives in the pursuit of justice! How many names would they have from the past 30 years? It's just a shame!

I watched the same report, last night. They blame the violence on the abundance of guns. The same guns that the law abiding citizens are not allowed to have.

There's only two logical explanations for the reasoning of the government of Chicago. Either they're mentally ill, or they are part of the criminal element. I'm suspecting the latter.

How about just building a wall around they city. No-one comes in, no-one comes out.

Once that wall is completed, they can start building one around my state (NJ).

Daley dosent want anyone carrying firearms for their self defense.

That would jepordize the careers of his mobster henchmen that keep "tabs" on things for him.

Besides, the more confusion, the better for buisness.

I think he's going to be dragged out of office still completely opposed to guns. He's one of those kinds of people who will never admit they're wrong even when evidence is shoved right under his face. It's like they see it as showing weakness.

If only we could get rid of Seattle mayor Mike McGinn too...

What's he going to do once he is out of office and does not have his own police protection? He'll move to somewhere where he can have a gun of his own.

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

    Harry S Truman:
Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.
