TN: "Guns haven’t changed state parks"

    http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2...d-state-parks/

“I am pleasantly surprised,” said Tennessee Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, who in 2009 lobbied against the so-called “guns in parks” bill. “I believed that it was not a good idea.”

nine Tennessee permit holders have been involved in 12 shooting deaths since 2008, according to news accounts cited by the Violence Policy Center....

Eight holders were charged by police, according to the center’s website. The ninth was a suicide...

    ...

...As of July 1, 293,431 Tennesseans held valid handgun permits, ...
8 (I'm not counting the suicide) divided by 293,431 = .0000272 Almost three hundred thousandths of a percent.

    I'd call that statistically insignificant.

I see VPC statistical wrangling. They mention that eight were charged but don't follow up with the acquittal rate. If all of them were convicted you can be sure it would read "eight convicted" instead.

Note that eight were only charged... we don't know anything about whether any of these were prosecuted, and if so, what the outcome was. (And it's actually three thousandths of a percent... I'm sure the VPC will jump all over that!)

Further note that the "odd individual" (being charitable here) toting an AK in the park was their biggest scare, but the guy was found to be completely legal which means it was much ado about nothing.

I hope to see the day where reports of "man with a gun" are hardly man-bites-dog news.
