Utah lawmaker: Guns should be legal without permit

    http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=13990030

    Here we go...

A Utah lawmaker wants to let all state residents who can legally have a gun carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

Republican Rep. Carl Wimmer of Herriman says he'll introduce a bill to eliminate the requirement for a state concealed weapon permit.

The measure is being drafted for the legislative session that begins Jan. 24.

Wimmer says it wouldn't change laws about who can legally have a gun.

Felons, people who have committed a violent crime and illegal residents are prohibited from carrying a gun.

Gun Violence Prevention Center board member Stephen H. Gunn says Utah should be tightening its permitting process instead of allowing anyone to carry a gun.
We're all in favor of reducing violent crime. It's just that pro-gunners have a method that is proven effective. Anti-gunners don't.

Their timing could be better. People will be on the defensive after Tucson, seeing as how AZ just made this change. But it is a good goal.

It is necessary, for the security of a free state, for all citizens to be armed. Removing any and all restrictions is the means to facilitate this.

    Silly isn't it?

I think I saw recently that this same argument was being made against open carry in Arkansas. This despite the fact that most states allow open carry and it has not caused the end of the world (yet).
