OR attempting to outlaw sale of most guns

    http://oregonfirearms.org/2011%20Ses...anddrafts.html

    SB 659
Prohibits manufacturing, selling or rebuilding firearm without chamber load indicator.
Prohibits manufacturing, selling or rebuilding semiautomatic pistol without magazine disconnect mechanism.
Prohibits removing or disabling chamber load indicator or magazine disconnect mechanism.
Punishes violation by maximum of one year’s imprisonment, $6,250 fine, or both. Punishes sub- sequent violations by maximum of five years’ imprisonment, $125,000 fine, or both.
    Becomes operative January 1, 2013
This would prohibit the sale of any and all firearms that don't have both a "loaded chamber indicator" and a "mag disconnect".

It would define a "loaded chamber indicator" as:
    (4) A chamber load indicator described in this section must:
    (a) Be readily visible;
    (b) Contain incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics; and
    (c) Provide notice to a reasonable person, without reference to any resource other than the firearm itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.
This would prohibit the sale of most revolvers, auto-loading handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

People, we should be used to this type of knee jerk reaction by now. There is legislation introduced everyday by the antis that would not even be note worthy if it wasn't for this high profile shooting. Nothing has really changed, just more publicity.

All they have to do is follow the rules. Consider every gun as loaded until you verify that it is not.

Maybe they could put a little orange flag that would pop up when you chamber a round! Give me a break! I sure hope you can defeat this one.

Heck why not require every firearm to have a "Safety kill switch" so that in the event of a shooting, the nearest bystander can jump up and deactivate the gun until it is reset by the factory.

What? You think this legislation is about safety?? It's about (perceived) control...

Gee - I didn't know of ANY state that had surplus cash to waste defending a lawsuit. Oregon (and others) shouldn't whine about financial woes.

While I can understand the "safety" aspect of this as it applies to pistols, the intent, in typical legislative fashion, is poorly written--either unintentionally or purposefully--so that it fails to specifically diferenciate between "firearms" and "semi-auto" handguns, allowing interpretation to include any and all "firearms."

This is where gun owners, manufacturers, gunsmiths, etc. need to get involved form the git-go and correct the wording before it has a chance to be enacted. Once passed, it's difficult to correct.

It needs to simply not be enacted in the first place. Laws like this, which tell you what you can and cannot buy, have no business ever being passed and enforced at all.

A magazine disconnect prevents a handgun from firing unless a magazine is in the mag well, regardless if there is a round chambered.

That's what happens when a bunch of kalifornia hippies set up shop in your state. They're like a cancer that eats away at common sense and personal freedom.
