Second Amendment activist Mike Vanderboegh, who helped expose the ATF's emerging Project Gunrunner scandal (in which botched sting operations have allowed straw purchasers monitored by the feds to walk untold thousands of guns across the southern border), says Traver is known to be a "managerial bad apple in ATF circles." He rose through the agency hierarchy, "all the while making friends of notorious Illinois anti-firearm rights politicians of both parties. He has had personal friendly contact with Barack Obama and Hizzoner, the King of Chicago Richard Daley. He has worked with the virulently anti-firearm Joyce Foundation ... putting his efforts and his name to a report which calls for more firearm bans and regulations that amount to the gutting of the Second Amendment."

Abolish the ATF entirely, along with the Gun Control Act of 1934, 1968, and the Firearm Owner's "Protection" Act of 1986. The very existence of this agency is an unconstitutional abomination and naturally attracts people like this clown.

What we need for Pres is someone who will, in the first 24 hours of his term issue a requirement that all federal agencies (they work for the executive branch) produce a constitutional justification for their existence in 30 days. Agencies, or parts of agencies that have no constitutional mandate would then be summarily dismissed - immediately, with an appropriate severance package similar to those common in the corporate world for rank and file workers. The properties used by the terminated agencies would then be 1) sold if owned by the govt or 2) leases broken with appropriate penalties paid. This would allow the federal government to be "right sized" within 1 year.

Wow, great post. It would be interesting to see how much government would be left...

*sigh* I wish...
The president would need support of the legislative branch. Unfortunately, special interests, protectionist groups, and outright stupidity own the majority of both the House and Senate, so this would be a pipe dream.
Even if the president were politically suicidal enough (though I could see Ron Paul doing this), he or she would need to convince the crooks in Congress to completely infuriate their campaign financiers. [/cynicism]

Traver is an anti-gun douche who has no business heading up the BATFE.

Are you sure about that? I believe the agencies work for the executive branch and the Pres could summarilly dismiss them. It might piss off congress, but there is not much they can do about that except not fund some other project of the Pres. But if all that is left has a constitutional mandate, the courts would likely block Congress from defunding. Interested in your input.
