OfficialWire: Texas Officials Want Their Own Gun Rights

Texas state lawmakers want an expanded right to carry guns in public places, a right that wouldn't be extended to other citizens.

The measure now pending in the Legislature also invokes the Arizona shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords as a justification.

"Obviously we present a greater target for those people that are emotionally disturbed out there in the public than the average person does," Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, R-Lexington, told the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram Saturday.

Another example of the elected officials thinking that they are above those who elected them. This is the main problem with our Government at this time!

Anybody else gets shot and they scream to ban all guns. One of their own is a victim and they all want to start strapping on iron.

Really don't have a problem with this. They are a target and become more of one everyday. No matter what they do, someone get's their panties in a wad and thinks they are all crooks. There are many folks wrapped a bit too tight that tend to think government officials are to cause of all their ills. I'd rather have them providing for their own defense than bill the public for it.

The statistics don't support that assumption at all. We are 1000's of more times likely to be a victim or attacked than they are.

I would have to press 'him ' to provide proof for that comment.

I would argue that they are better protected by allowing everybody that can legally carry to do so,I think if some sociopath decided to attack instead of only worrying about one gun would hopefully encounter a few dozen and get stopped before he ever got really started.Even tho we may not agree with their politics we do not wish or condone that somebody kill them and as Americans would stand together to stop any assault on our elected representatives

Why not just make it as easy for everyone to carry as they want it to be for themselves? Then they wouldn't need special rules.
