    ODU protest draws both sides in gun-rights debate

    NORFOLK Pro- and anti-gun demonstrators squared off against each other today at Old Dominion University, which is moving to tighten its rules restricting guns on campus.


    The two groups faced each other from opposite sites of Kaufman Mall outside Webb University Center.


    The pro-gun group, organized by the Virginia Citizens Defense League and the ODU College Republicans, wore stickers saying, “Guns save lives” and “No guns? No funds,” encouraging gun-rights advocates to withhold donations to ODU if it tightens restrictions. Several of the demonstrators carried holstered pistols.
    The anti-gun group, organized by the Virginia Center for Public Safety and the ODU Young Democrats, held signs saying, “No guns on campus” and chanted, “Books, not bullets.”

    As to making a "difference":

    1) I don't think it changes the anti-RKBA paper's position -- at all.

    2) I don't think it changes many, if any, folks' opinion.

    However, what it does do is keep the anti-freedom harbingers-of-doom from showing up at the State Legislature with a poll, which they can brag about and claim represents the voters. And, IMHO, that does make a difference.

    On a more personal note, it is fun to send LTEs and post comments on their blogs quoting their own poll back at them.
