Surprise! POTUS *is* going to sign this bill into law, in spite of his earlier promises.

    Sorry Charlie.

Obama to Sign Indefinite Bill into Law

National Defense Authorization Act sent to WH

The Sound of One President Caving

and then there is this little tidbit, which I find terribly curious

Defense Authorization Act to Place National Guard Bureau Chief on Joint Chiefs of Staff

This is entirely too much power for any government to have, especially our own :( I am very disappointed in our president.

Government can never have enough power. Just ask them.

Hope you are not standing near them when they get popped as you would just be another "collateral damage" casualty. Sorry Charlie, we really needed to get the guy next to you - sorry about your luck.

Hop - not sure if you are putting words in my mouth or just adding color commentary on Polk. FTR, I never said Polk was great or even good overall. I simply stated his position on pork was similar to the view espoused by a member of this board. I do think Polk was prescient and right on this particular issue. That is all I said and any inferences drawn past that are pure conjecture.

I believe they have always had it. Could be wrong, as it does not happen often. There are side effects to doing it.

Citizens have it when dealing with signed contracts. I've done it. Shame on them for not catching it.

I've had 57 good years on this planet. It would be my contribution to the war on terror.

The President has no line item veto authority. Congress passed such a bill in 1996. The Supreme Court shot it down in 1998. End of subject.

Why would he veto something he wanted? He had the language added to include American citizens and his White House has released statements saying he can kill American citizens. He wanted this and of course he signed it.

Can you cite a creditable reference to that?
