MD CC permittee takes misdemeanor plea in NYC, no jail time

Stephen Grant takes a plea deal in Manhattan court and avoids jail on gun charge - NY Daily News

Grant forgot to take his Walther PK380 handgun out of his car before leaving his Eastern Shore home for a weekend in New York last April. Then he left it in his midtown hotel room safe when he checked out.

Grant, 64, called security at the Muse Hotel on W. 46th St. to alert them he’d “left the weapon and drove back to collect it on May 1.

“When he arrives, there are detectives,” said his lawyer, Robert Gottlieb.

The only good thing I see in this story is that the others still facing charges in NYC can use it as leverage for plea bargaining with.

    IMHO, he shouldn't.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

Once again the NYC authorities can brag how they got another gun off the streets and ID'd the BG that owned it.

At least the DA is not insisting on maximum sentencing in every trivial case.

I'm wondering that even if it is a misdemeanor, if it's a gun charge, will he be allowed to keep his permit?

The really sad thing is that out of all the responsible people in Maryland that want a permit and can't get one, this guy does just because he carries money!

    Sad...

Maryland is much more concerned with individual status and political connections than with proper training when granting concealed handgun licensing, so small wonder this guy was ignorant of New York gun law. He probably just figured since he was connected enough to get a Maryland permit, other states would recognize and acknowledge his status, as well. He may be right, since he essentially got a walk on the New York gun charge.
