FL License to Carry for Military & Vets Under 21 is now Law

    2012 Session
    HB463 & SB998 - Shall Issue Carry Licenses for Military & Vets:

Those who defend our country overseas should be able to defend themselves and their families at home. There have been too many incidences of violence against our troops who have just returned from overseas deployments and found themselves defenseless at home. Florida Carry authored legislation that will insure that our current troops and honorably discharged veterans can obtain a license to carry regardless of age or duty station. The bill will also require that fingerprint cards be accepted from military police and provost so that service members stationed overseas can complete their applications.

There are over 8,000 adult service members under the age of 21 living in the State of Florida. Countless more resident veterans and annual military visitors who will have their right the bear arms advanced by these bills.

This is a good first step toward full recognition of the right to bear arms by all law-abiding adults.

Florida Carry Authored and Strongly Supports These Bills
    PASSED HOUSE & SENATE UNANIMOUSLY!
Victory! - Signed in to Law 4/13/2012

AMEN - NOW LETS GET THE LAW to allow them TO HAVE A BEER, for gods sake!

Gee. Can go to war and play with M-4 but cannot carry in the US. Wrong.

FL is getting cooler every day.

Anyone ever take a survey of all those NJ and NY Retired people, who hated guns before they were 60 years old, who now have carry permits in retirement in FL? Would really scare the Brady Bunch to see those numbers.

Now only if our benevolent masters in DC will change the laws to allow them to purchase a weapon. Back in the 1970s FL changed the laws to allow 18 year olds to drink, there was a significant drop in underage DUIs and alcohol related accidents until the howls and shrieks of certain special interest groups forced them to raise the age back to 21.

Well since 2001, I've led some Marines and Sailors (and yes Navy Corpsmen can be absolute killers, and life savers - and hart breakers if you listen to the lies, LOL), and there is no reason why if they are under 21 and have that creed, they can't drink and breed like the rest of us!

Nuff said on that point. (notice how I did not go into political left versus right on this issue here..... )

This is one your going to find me on the other side of.
Young service members get into enough trouble with drinking and other issues adding a weapon is not go to go well.
Betting that 90% of the issue with service members and the law involved young ones and drinking now mix in a weapon.
To this day I still lose sleep over many young soldiers that really screwed up their life because they were not ready for drinking and all that goes with.
Now put them in a city where LEO does not like them anyway, they are a free and easy target and give them a weapon it is not going to go well.
Most Article 15's started out like this "We were drinking and"
They need time to make the move to adult that time between high school age and early 20's can make or break a life time.

Good news, although I'm glad that Maine's age is 18 for everyone. Maybe it was all those retirees we send down there that helped out. :D

Just as rank has its privileges, so should military service.
I am in agreement with this new law.

I think that the law should be for everybody. Look, lets put things in perspective. If folks in the military are sooooo responsible with firearms how come when you go to the range for qualification it is basically zero fun and so safety conscious that the only way someone would get shot by accident is if they tried to do it.

While I'm not directly disagreeing with your idea...the military option seems to be common sense.
I only base that on the 'wacky' teens I work with at school and think about one of the with 'special privileges'.
I have seen most young men who have joined the military come back for a visit with a different mind set...a bit more mature and certainly more focused.

Good. Now it needs to be 18 for everyone, everywhere in this country. That you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in the first place from a FFL dealer is absolutely ridiculous.

I have heard that a lot. ABR (Anyvody but R....)

The fact is this law is not a good law. The state should already allow these people to carry along with other 18-20 year olds who are not in the military. This is a right that should not be denied to someone who is under a certain age or not in the service to our nation. Everybody should be able to carry.

Our rights are not privileges. Sorry but military service should not get you more rights than another citizen.
