I think that, by itself, it has very little impact. In my humble opinion, I think that the way to go is to keep the consistent theme of personal responsibility, accountability and self reliance in multiple Letters and Opinion Pieces from time to time. Whether it's a local, state or national issue you might write about it keeping within the framework of freedom and personal liberty and over time people might start to see the connection. I'm writing one right now that addresses everything from healthcare reform to stem cell research to the war to school funding and I even get in my gratuitous comment concerning gun control. The general theme is of the importance of regular people outnumbering the entrenched special interest parasites at the polls.
It can get frustrating, but once you get over that it becomes fun. I write and am "empty" for awhile and then out of the blue comes an inspiration. I think that with age comes a greater awareness of politics. It all started with gun control for me, but that's now just the tip of the iceberg. Become a student of it all and then a messenger. George Washington would be proud. My wife gets pissed from time to time, but I imagine that Martha did as well.
