Any thoughts on where this idea came from?
I was talking with a guy at work today about buying ammo, and he made some comment about how you can only buy so much before the feds will come knocking and asking questions. I probed further into what he was saying, thinking he was just pretending to wear a fin-foil hat, but then he made it clear he was serious. He believes there is a max limit to how much ammo you can have on hand.
I told him it says nothing about that in the RCW(WA laws) section about firearms, and I was unaware of any federal restrictions either. Anyone here know of what he is refering to, or what might have made him believe there is an ammo limit? I'm pretty sure there is no basis to his belief, but it got me to wondering, so I figured I would ask those with more experience and knowledge than myself.

Never heard of it. If true, they would have locked me away long ago and I'm still buying and stocking up. It will probably go to my heirs before I can shoot it all.

He probably heard it on eithr Fox News or from an NRA bulletin. They make up stuff like that to keep people entertained...

I'd guess that he heard a radio or tv story, or even read about one of the countries that does impose strict limits on the amount of ammunition it's citizens can own, an just assumed the story was about the US. It's amazing how many facts get pushed aside by the human brain when it wants to believe something. Just look at the number of posts on any internet forum that completely disregard any info presented in the OP or following posts, and jump to wild conclusions contrary to all evidence that they supposedly just read.

If your buying a few boxes at a time, they aren't going to know how much ammo you have. If I prchase 6 boxes today, how would they know if I shot it up tomorrow and bought more the next day.

Unless you use a check of credit card how do they know who has the ammo...............

I would have thought it would have been obuma or one of his band of marxist thugs who are trying to implement such an idea

Sometimes I buy it at Wally World, and not always the same store at that, and nobody ever writes it down or makes note of it. Wonder who is supposed to be keeping all these ammo purchase records anyway? Of course all states may not be like TN and maybe some do keep records???

I'm not actually worried about them tracking my ammo purchases, I realize it would be impossible if you didn't want them to know. I was just wondering if there was some story out there, or a law someone was trying to pass a while back that would limit your storage. I don't think they even have limits like that in CA or IL do they?

How about reloaders like me? My last purchase was for 8lbs of powder and 20,000 primers and I buy bullets 5,000 at a time.

never heard of it, and I know plenty of people who buy ammo in bulk, a year or more worth at a time, for people who shoot very regularly. There's a ton of misinformation out there, and as we approach prime political season it'll get worse. Don't trust anything you hear, research it yourself!

I've purchased many 'thousands' of rounds of ammo without any problems...wait a minute...there are big black suburbans outside my home, sorry...gotta' go now!

I have a couple of friends heavy into IDPA and 3 Gun that get together and buy ammo by the pallet sometimes. They've never had any gvmt issues.

About the closest thing you are going to find is state or local fire codes that we reloaders have to worry about. Some places do have restrictions on powder storage.
