By Richard M. Aborn, Published: May 31The Washington Post

My Comments: Plow/chew through this, and then check out one poster's comments (below) to the article: Why indifference to gun violence is a national crime - The Washington Post

    ----------------------(from the readers Comments section)----------------------------
"Look, I'll save y'all a lot of trouble. You don't need to read all the comments below. For every article posted about guns or gun control in the Post, you'll see most if not all of these arguments: (AG = Anti-gunner, PG = Pro-gunner)."

AG: There are not enough gun laws in this country to prevent gun violence.
PG: There are already 20,000 gun laws on the books, the vast majority of which don't work.

AG: Gun violence is out of control, look how many people die from guns every year.
PG: Check your statistics. Once you eliminate suicides and gang violence, the numbers are not that bad.

AG: America has more gun violence than any other advanced country.
PG: Duh, we have more guns so we have more gun violence. But we do not have more violence in total.

AG: America would be a better place without guns.
PG: America would be a better place without gun-grabbers.

AG: We must keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them.
PG: Just how the heck are you gonna do that without trampling on everyone else's rights?

AG: We must enact more laws to keep the guns out of the hands of gangs and other criminals.
PG: Gangs and other criminals are already violating every law on the books. How are more laws going to help?

AG: That guy looks a little shady, I don't think he should have been allowed to own a gun.
PG: Sure, and maybe we should ship him off to Siberia while we're at it.

AG: We must reduce gun ownership to make our families and children safe.
PG: You must allow me to own guns to make my family and children safe.

AG: The NRA is an evil empire that has brainwashed the public.
PG: The NRA is a responsible organization that has been demonized by the liberal media.

AG: Guns are a relic from the 19th century when we needed to protect ourselves from bears and indians.
PG: Guns work just fine in the 21st century when we need to protect ourselves from crips and bloods.

AG: We should be more like England and Japan.
PG: England and Japan!? You must be joking.

AG: No one has a need for a cop-killing, plane-downing, kevlar-piercing, expanded clip, ballistic machine gun assault rifle!
PG: Geez, what are you talking about? Get a clue.

AG: Guns should only be in the hands of the military and police.
PG: That's what Hitler, Stalin, and Mao said.

AG: The 2nd amendment doesn't really mean THAT!
PG: Yes, the 2nd amendment means exactly THAT!

AG: You toothless, unwashed pro-gun wingnuts make me so mad!
PG: You spineless, commie anti-gun wusses make me so mad!

    One thing is for certain.

The ones that do not have guns will be ruled by the ones that do.

Thats all I need to know...everything else is a waste of time.
I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

Why indifference to gun violence ...
There is no "gun" violence. There's only violence. It just so happens the perp has selected a firearm as the weapon to assist in his/her violence.

Of course, with most every other attempted point by the "AG" side, my perspective is to see the twist or fallacy in the argument or claim that causes it to fall flat. I'm not indifferent, though I'm sure such people would prefer I feel guilty about such a claim of indifference. What I am is realist about the practical and political aspects of being an armed citizen in a dangerous world, and that eliminates the need to candy-coat questions, claims or issues.

As for just the first point on the list ("AG: There are not enough gun laws in this country to prevent gun violence"): there never will be.

This pretty much sums up the pro-gun/anti-gun argument...with ALL the crap cut away.

History has proven this to be accurate and factual time after time after time. But liberal do-gooders, true to form, will continue to pass more restrictive laws, disregarding the Constitution and impinging the rights of law abiding citizens, expecting different outcomes. They are a National crime and an International embarrassment! Vote em all out!

That PG retort should be: Outside of prison or death, you likely cannot stop a criminal from getting a gun.
Note: If you make guns illegal, only the criminals will have them.

An excellent reason for all of the GG to have guns!

Getting rid of guns, does not do away with violent attacks nor murders. Ask China, the UK, and Canada.

Heck, just look @ Mexico.... it's also illegal to run drugs, manufacture drugs, illegally possess guns, to commit murder, etc.... and how well is that working for them ?

These are the same stupid liberal talking points the anti-gun movement has been trying to brainwash the public with for years. Theres no truth to them,no data to back it up,but it doesn't matter, The only thing that matters is that they get enough people to believe their lies. They know they can manipulate a percentage of the population with their anti-gun talk, and they will tell any lie, make up anything, these people aren't going to check the validity of anything said. They hear it,they believe it ,end of story. Its just a numbers game.Create enough fear in people by lying about the real problem, blame it on something else,(in this case the guns because thats what they want to control)and then come riding in like a knight on a white horse and offer a solution to the problem. To date there have been enough people that they can't fool. That number is shrinking. When it gets out of balance enough in favor of the stupid,we lose. Some don't understand this, this battle to educate the people with the truth. They hear something about some group fighting the fight, and without anything to support what they hear they believe it. These are the ones that think its all about them. What they don't like. Small minded people without the ability to see the big picture. They are among us,and they are just as dangerous as the anti-gun people.
