    PA members of CC - urgent. (Merged, another 2)

    Some may well be aware of this but to make sure - here is the info from NRA. We all have to be active on this.

    Please Contact Your State Legislators Today!

    This month, all gun owners in Pennsylvania need to stand-up and be
    heard. Anti-gun legislators, led by Representative Dwight Evans
    (D-Philadelphia), are pushing new gun control measures in Harrisburg.
    Pointing to data from a recent Pennsylvania Democratic Party funded poll
    that indicates suburban residents are concerned about gun violence,
    Evans stated that "legislators should move beyond boundary lines and
    party labels to take action on gun control."

    Gun-control legislation has been dead on arrival in Harrisburg for more
    than a decade because the balance of the General Assembly supports the
    rights of gun owners. However, if Representative Evans and his
    supporters are successful this could change overnight.

    However with your help, we can again stop this from happening!

    Pennsylvania gun owners have two important dates to remember:

    September 25th - Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing Senate Judiciary
    Committee Chairman Stewart Greenleaf (R-12) schedules final hearing in
    Harrisburg - On Monday, September 25, the Senate Judiciary Committee
    will be holding a final hearing to receive testimony relating to urban
    violence. The hearing will be held 10:00 A.M. in Room 8E-B of the East
    Wing.

    Over the past several months, the committee has heard testimony from
    public officials and anti-gun zealots insisting on new gun control
    legislation to combat urban crime. This will be the final opportunity
    for NRA members to voice their concerns regarding the lack of
    enforcement and prosecution of federal and state firearm laws which has
    fueled violent crime over the past year. If you're planning on testifying
    or need additional information, contact Gregg Warner of Sen. Greenleaf's
    office, (717) 787-6599 or gwarner@pasen.gov

    September 26th - Committee of the Whole Meeting
    On Tuesday, September 26, the House of Representatives will convene as a
    "Committee of the Whole" to focus on crime and violence in Pennsylvania.
    The Committee of the Whole is a rarely used legislative mechanism
    designed to allow for a more informal, free-flowing public debate of a
    particularly critical issue facing the Commonwealth.

    Topics expected to be addressed include: "One-Gun-a-Month" legislation,
    elimination of statewide preemption, semi-automatic firearm bans as well
    as other anti-gun legislation which infringe on your rights as
    law-abiding gun owners.

    The time is NOW!

    NRA members across Pennsylvania must call or write their State
    Legislators and send the message that stiff punishment of criminals who
    commit crimes with guns is the key to stopping crimes committed with
    firearms.

    You can contact your State Representative at (717) 787-2016 and State
    Senator at (717) 787-5920.

    PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AND ASK THEM TO PROTECT
    YOUR RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS!

    To find further contact information please use the "Write Your
    Representative" feature found at www.NRAILA.org.

    If this was happening in my home state, I'd edit that to read, "Call, Send E-mail, and write a letter."

    The commie rags (newspapers) here are starting in on the anti-gun war path again. They do it slowly (editorials, letters to the editor, etc..) and then the anti's latch onto it like a dog and his bone.

    The are also starting to use assualt weapons to describe anything that isn't a pistol and even some pistols.

    You have to keep an eye on these folks. Our legislature doesn't come into session until next year but the coming up elections are going to be a huge compass as to which way the state is going to go on this issue.

    For once, I'd like to see them pass a law that targets criminals and not law-abiding citizens!

    Since I'm not an English Major, does anyone have a well written letter I could use as a template?

    If I'm writing for our rights I don't want to sound ignorant.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    George

    I'm with George, I would like a letter that I can "customize" a little so it does not look like an exact copy. Or at least bullet points that I can put words to.

    Maybe consider this - just an ''effort'' I constructed - all and any edit suggestions welcome.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear Sirs,
    As a Pennsylvania gun owner and legal carry permit holder, I must write and make my voice heard regarding the upcoming hearings on 25th and 26th of this month concerning proposals for increased gun controls in Pennsylvania.
    I should like to remind our legislators that we already have potentially more than enough firearms laws on the books, which if implemented can provide the controls needed against criminal use and misuse. Further to this is the simple fact that criminals by their very nature do not obey the law and yet, most proposals for further controls can and will only affect the honest citizen, further limiting his freedoms under the second amendment.
    I really fail to see how a ''one gun a month'' restriction can play any useful part in limiting criminals from aquiring firearms. The ''Black Market'' is so well established as to make this in my opinion totally ineffectual. Through this same black market are the avenues for gaining possession of in fact any firearm, including the so called ''assault'' weapons which may be obtained from about anywhere in the nation. Increased controls will only strengthen this sourcing, not weaken it.
    Many firearms have been shown to be obtained through the ''straw purchase'' method, which is already heavily prosecuted when discovered and could be further tightened up. No new statute required - simply tougher implementation. Penalties for firearms used in crime - again the law has enough teeth already if imposed. It is not the law abiding gun owners that present a problem and risk, and they should not be made to suffer more restrictions.
    All control proposals that are raised in hearing discussions should be impartially judged as to their actual useful effect on the criminal fraternity and not simply for the ''feelgood'' effect. Too many instigators of further gun control approach the problem based on ''fewer guns - less crime'' when in fact it is all down to how the criminal aquires guns and is punished under existing law for their misuse.
    In closing may I once more reiterate the point that is is vigorous implementation of existing laws that can provide the controls needed, without the addition of further limitations that will only penalize the legitimate owner.
    I am respectfully
    Chris,
    Thank You!
    I'll reword it just a bit so it doesn't sound like a form letter.
    Fortunately, there's a lot of good legislators in PA. Unfortunately, there's also a lot of bad ones. It's about 50/50 so a bad Bill could swing in either direction. The Phila. Inquirer is on a massive anti-gun crusade. I'd very non-confrontationally email Tom Ferrick, John Grogan and Monica Yant-Kinney of the Phila. Inquirer ( www.philly.com ) along with your State Rep and State Senator and write very informative yet short Letters to the Editor in your local and regional papers.
    It's tough getting that first word on the paper, but once you start you'll start to enjoy it. Write, sit on it for 2 or 3 days and then fine-tune it. I've got some good quotes on http://constitutionallyright.blogspot.com plus some examples of what made it to print.
    PA voters contact your State Rep's NOW!!
    PA voters contact your State Rep's NOW!!
    I just want to remind everyone that next Tuesday the 26th of September our legislature will me meeting in the state Capitol. One of the topics that will most likley be on the agenda will be HB2231 "Castle Doctrine".
    Please everyone call, email, or write your state Rep and let them know you want HB2231 fully supported. Let your Rep know you should not have to fear protecting you or your loved ones in an act of self defense simply because most DA's try to always try to find some small reed to grasp at to find an argument that opportunity to flee or preclude was available. Nor do you wish to fear that the criminal can file a civil action against you for simply protecting yourself or loved one, this is just wrong.
    This is our chance now here in Pennsylvania to do something and lets not allow it to slip through our fingers. We have less than seven days to make calls so please be proactive.
    Just to add to what I posted above HB2231 "Castle Doctrine" is in the House Judiciary Committe since November 2005 and it will go stale this November if we don't do our jobs of contacting our State House Reps. To make this a little easier for everyone I am putting the link up for the PA House and you can enter your zip code in the upper right and this will lead you to both your House and Senate Rep. Please email your House Rep. hXXp://TTT.house.state.pa.us/
