Pushing Micro-Stamping Again
NYT: Foes stall method to link shell casings to guns - US news - The New York Times - msnbc.com
“I think it is one of these things in law enforcement that would just take us from the Stone Age to the jet age in an instant,” said Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld III of the Baltimore Police Department. “I just can’t comprehend the opposition to it.”
How many states need to pass laws requiring this, and then realize it is not even viable yet, before they stop trying to push it?
And why do they continue to believe that measures taken to track legal, law abiding gun owners, will help them prevent crimes by criminals who by nature do not follow the laws. If they are going to murder someone, do you really think that they will not file down the end of the firing pin to remove the stamp, or just swap out the pins all together? What idiots!

2A arguments aside, it's difficult to comprehend that there are people out there, who are just that dumb. No great comfort to hear it from a senior LEO.

Let's see... "dirty" guns often have serial numbers filed off... that takes some time, BTW. Most serial numbers in steel guns are deeply imprinted... A dremel would make quick work of some plates in polymer guns. it would take a lot less time and effort to remove the pin end laser etching and not effect the function of the gun... probably not as easy to remove the chamber marking... but my guess is a dremel would do that easily too...
If it worked, I would have no problem with it... it doesn't work.

Then there is that pesky problem that criminals tend to not use a firearm that is legally licensed to them. They really don't care what is stamped on the casing. This is just a big roll of stupid, dipped in retarded sauce.

Ok, so we go ahead with this plan of theirs. Ammo costs go up, firearms costs go up. They're doing that anyway.
But, the BGs go from using their '9s', to using .38spls, then dump/melt down the casings when they're done. What did their 'solution' do? Make the BGs clean up after themselves. ...yay...
Good plan, elected officials. Good plan.

it isn't stupidity... I think it's insanity...
I think it was Einstein who made these two comments:
"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them."
And
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

I was actually considering quoting that myself, I'm glad you added it.

- As an alternative, they can simply go to a local range, collect a fistful of casings and throw them all over the crime scene.

They will never give up will they
Method to Track Firearm Use Is Stalled by Foes
Identifying the firearm used in a crime is one of the biggest challenges for criminal investigators. But what if a shell casing picked up at a murder scene could immediately be tracked to the gun that fired it?
A technique that uses laser technology and stamps a numeric code on shell casings can do just that. But the technology, called micro stamping, has been swept up in the larger national debate over gun laws and Second Amendment rights, and efforts to require gun makers to use it have stalled across the nation.

Just because every other registration or gun fingerprinting method has resulted in just about zero cases being solved (but millions and millions of dollars spent), why should that fact be held against the microstamping proponents?

Even though they aren't stamped they have been matched to a firearm. I've thought about it, what if a BG went to a range and picked up a handfull of casings to throw down at a crime scene to confuse the popo and it just so happens there's a few of yours? I've been to one in Orlando where they sweep'em up and leave'em in a 5 gal pail out in the range. That's a scary thought. I think I may be watching to many episodes of "The First 48"..
Why?? Because at the last second, the Police are minutes away.

And... and... Criminal Gun Owners will not disable this, but law abiding Gun Owners will pay and be held accountble for the not reported facts of real gun crimes (the majority) of the protected classes killing within their own Miniority Groups.
Sure, whe the Heck, lets pass another stupid feel good Brady Law!
