I am not an attorney nor a constitutional law expert. I do not know what is going to happen or not happen, but in the past, I have appreciated this man's insights. This is a different take on the subject than the video clip above, and it seems to address how the ATT could impact us, even though its not voted on......... I am not sure--but this is VERY thought provoking.

Ya know, folks back in the 50's and 60's thought that a nuclear war was bound to happen with the Soviet Union. Score of prominent talking heads convinced a whole generation that the sky was falling and they needed to stock up on supplies and build bomb shelters. Did that happen......nope. And they probably ridiculed those that had an opposing view calling them naive or naysayers. Sound familiar anyone.

Point being is this whole thread is being fueled by fear, what ifs, I heard this will happen. But not one solid fact yet on how it will define how are rights will be affected. There is none becasue it ain't happened yet.
Scare tactics that amount to a neutral outcome? I find it ridiculous how many people don't think that this is still a very real possibility. Most people might want to consider digging their heads out of the sand.

Dick Morris is a disgraced prostitute chasing former member of the Clinton administration. How strange the "conservatives" put so much stock in what Morris now has to say.

True. No one derail this thread because of me! Lol.

    Back OT...

Here is the latest publication by our dear friends down at media matters.
Inside The UN Arms Trade Treaty Talks | Blog | Media Matters for America

The fact that the ATT conference's first week lent itself so easily to Benny Hill spoofs is a good place to begin considering the massive gulf separating the actual treaty being negotiated by consensus at the UN this month, and the Iran-directed Second Amendment-eating Golem of conservative imagination
The fact that the NRA and the conservative media have been able to dominate the narrative in the U.S. is a footnote to the decline of journalism in America.

Only two things I need to know...

Baraq Obama Hussein and Hillary Clinton are behind it and support it.

That is enough for me to know that as Americans, we'll lose.

This is dangerously offtopic but you are so right about that one.

I believe Dick Morris was a key player in the development of the Assault Weapons Ban of Bill Clinton's reign as the King. So yeah he does bear relevance to second amendment conversation.

Just like Romney bears relevance to the passing of the Obama Care legislation. Romney developed the thing, if he had not, would we be where we are now? Yet so many conservatives, ones believing that morris is the best thing since sliced bread, are blindly and sheepishly pledgine allegiance to their future new world order purchased slave master puppet Romney. Do not let Mitt fool you people, he cares about your gun rights about as much as the Brady Bunch.

    Back on topic.

Thats because they are lawyers and politicians. No such thing as a straight answer there. Their job is to complicate matters, not make them easier or understandable.
Not True. Bill Clinton signed a UN sponsored gun ban treaty: the “Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing and Trafficking in Firearms” treaty (CIFTA): an international gun control treaty signed by President Bill Clinton in 1997 but never ratified by the U.S. Senate. To this day it has never been voted on. Never even brought before the Senate because they know it will not be ratified. In 2009 while in South America Obama voiced his support of this treaty.

Tennessee dosnt require registration of a firearm. Quick background check (if purchased from a retailer), fork over the cash and here is your gun. So if guns were to ever be outlawed does that mean I can just hide mine and if some ATF storm troopers come knockin, tell them I sold my guns private party?

You fail to realize that if a law is passed to turn in your weapons (fined and/or jailed and charged with a felony if one doesn't) the overwhelming majority of gun owners would willingly turn them in.

Thats speculation but sadly it probably would be the end result. I find it hard to imagine what would happen if every legal gun owner in this country would stand for thier rights if taken away. Unfortunatley, this isnt a period where militias, private citizens and modern militaries are equaly matched so a civil war would probably be quick. I would find comfort in the idea that thoes who fight for this country would sooner turn against its commanders and continue to fight for our rights than fight against thier own friends and families.

Well I guess if Im going to say your speculating, I should get off my soap box. Then again with my imagination, I should get out of my cardboard box.

This nonsensical stuff is all over the internet and yet, no one seems to bother to go to Politifact.com or factcheck.org (Dick Cheney's favorite site) to find out if all the BS is true or possible.

First, any treaty the US signs and ratifies CANNOT BYPASS THE CONSTITUTION; that is settled law.

Second, any treaty has to garner the approval of 2/3 of the Senate. Considering that they can't even pass anything with a simple majority, the odds on getting 2/3 vote on a controversial treaty are absurdly small.

Third, 46% of American households have guns; how do you think they will vote?

For starters, Obama wouldn’t be able to “bypass” Congress. All international treaties that the U.S. agrees to require the approval of two-thirds of the senators present before the treaties can be ratified. Those would surely be tough votes to get if the treaty banned all firearms. Last year, in fact, 13 Democratic senators, led by Jon tester of Montana, wrote a letter to Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton saying that they wouldn’t support a treaty unless they were guaranteed that it wouldn’t “in any way regulate the domestic manufacture, possession or sales of firearms or ammunition” in the U.S. That’s in addition to 45 Republican senators, led by Jerry Moran of Kansas, who also wrote a letter saying that “any treaty resulting from the Arms Trade Treaty process that seeks in any way to regulate the domestic manufacture, assembly, transfer, or purchase of firearms, ammunition, and related items would be completely unacceptable to us.”

Similar debunking info is available at Snopes.com
    snopes.com: Small Arms Treaty

And at politifact.org which has labeled it 'pants on fire.'

So did Benjamin Franklin and many others. Not condoning it but please explain how this activity prevents one from having otherwise intelligent ideas?
