Have you contacted your US Senators about the UN Small Arms Treaty?

There has been much heated discussion and opinion regarding the UN Small Arms Treaty.

    Poll:

Have you contacted your Senators in regards to the UN Small Arms Treaty.

Here is what I sent to my Senators of Kentucky:

I am a Kentucky resident and Law Abiding Gun Owner with a Concealed Deadly Weapons License. As we don't know what the final Small Arms Treaty will contain. I trust that you will vote on my behalf against the treaty if it is Contrary to our 2nd Amendment rights. Should this treaty be acceptable under our constitution and beneficial to the citizens of the United States I trust you will make the correct decision on that as well.

Thank You for your service of our Great and free nation.

I have done it several times with responses back from the Republicans. They are aware of it and vow to fight it...."to the last man".

At least I know this one won't sneak up on them.

Have contacted both Senators and my state rep. The only one I have heard from is the rep and he does not support the treaty.

I voted yes but I am not concerned about it. I always let my elected official know how I feel.

Those of us in Colorado probably hope to REPLACE our current Senators before a vote is taken, hence there is NO NEED to contact them currently.

Having said that, yes, they know my position on such matters.

Every time I contact my Senators (or Reps for that fact), I never expect a response, and never get one. I do, however expect that I am continuiously added to a threat watch, because my view is not Progressively PC here.

Mine won't respond nor do they care about what the 'majority' of US Citizens, let alone those from this state, think about personal liberties.

I sent them one telling them I don't support the treaty, and reminded them of their oath to uphold the constitution...they need that reminder occasionally

True but I used a canned letter that included all three.

It's my understanding that this "small arms treaty' is just in a discussion phase. There is a meeting in July at the U.N. headquarters to hold a conference. The treaty hasn't even been drafted yet so we really don't know the details.

There are,as usual, many erroneous e-mails circulating through the community.

Once I read the actual treaty THEN I would contact my Senator. Who knows, maybe, as you suggested, if it is "acceptable under our constitution and beneficial to the citizens of the United States" I may write him a different letter altogether. I'll just wait and see if it materializes into something/anything first.

My state legislature is amazing. My national representatives on the other hand.. I have described not as garbage, but as the cheese that grows at the bottom of a garbage can that has never been cleaned. I'm not going to call up satan and ask him to turn down the heat.

/edit - Read Rock and Glocks post if you're not convinced ;) Though he's more straight to the point and less to the colorful sarcasm.

Even if the Senate did vote to ratify this treaty (already a majority against it) it still would NOT matter. This issue is a 'sheep in wolf's clothing.' It is a phony get 'em in the tent' come on for demagogues and NRA recruiting. It has no chance of ever being ratified and EVEN IF IT WAS RATIFIED wouldn't mean anything regarding 2A.

Read comments about it on politifact.com, factcheck.org, and snopes.com.

The [Supreme] Court ruled: “. . .no agreement with a foreign nationcan confer on Congress or any other branch of theGovernment power which is free from the restraints of

"...the Court held that acts of Congress arelegally equal to treaties. Acts must comply with theConstitution, so treaties, being on “full parity” with acts, must also comply. The Court continued, “No agreementwith a foreign nation can confer power on Congress orany other branch of government, which is free from the

This proposed treaty is eyewash and just one more thing you don't need to worry about.

Which is why I worded my letter accordingly. I still felt the need to let my Senators what I expected of them.
