Just watched an interesting episode of "The Rifleman"
Today I saw an episode of the Rifleman titled "Anvil Chorus", originally broadcast in 1962.
The storyline was that the normal Sheriff had to leave town, so the local blacksmith took over as sheriff temporarily. The blacksmith had a great idea, if he took everybody's guns, there would be no trouble. Even though the Rifleman is not especially high drama, there were some interesting exchanges among the characters about gun ownership and individual rights.
Well it seems that some bad guys came to town and quickly figured out that nobody in the town had any guns. So, the bad guys started doing what bad guys do. Not surprisingly the Rifleman came in at the last minute and saved the town (who would have guessed).
At the conclusion of the show everybody figured out that individuals do indeed need to be able to protect themselves from evil.
Isn't it interesting how some ideas are timeless ??
