Warning!! Milwaukee gun range voluntarily reports law-abiding customers to police

My Comments: Boycott this business forever!
It was reported that the former Badger Guns (now Brew City Shooters Supply) Brew City Shooters Supply Indoor Shooting Range in Milwaukee, WI has, since 2009, been reporting the names of every customer that comes in to use their firing range to the West Milwaukee Police Department.
In this time over 25,000 customer names were reported to West Milwaukee Police Chief Dennis Nasci who ran a background check on each through “his system”.
So far in 2012 it was reported more than 8,800 customer name records have been supplied to West Milwaukee Police by Brew City Shooters Supply to have a criminal background check run on them.
We do not know yet, how else West Milwaukee Police have been using these records they have been given by Brew City Shooters Supply, nor if they are storing those customer names for future reference. We also do not know what other purposes West Milwaukee Police might choose to use these customer name lists for in the future.

Is this even legal for a Chief to do?

Some background on this gun shop.
In the past it appears they were very lax in who they sold guns to. On paper this is the 3rd owner. First the Dad "owned" it after getting heat from ATF/Milwaukee Police/West Milwaukee Police, one of his son's "owned" it and pulled the license. Then ATF pulled that license. Now another son took "ownership" and pulled a license. Supposedly the shop has taken a 180 from what it used to be. Time will tell since they are under the microscope.
Whether giving the data to police is illegal or not who knows. Personally I believe it is.
Nasci's department started running background checks on everyone using the Badger Guns range in 2009, an arrangement that Adam Allan agreed to, though no law required him to do so. See more:

Maybe they will get a reality show like Red Jacket. They could build the first ever drum mag fed M4 and sell it to a clandestine agency on national television. Of course they will have to pack the target with tannerite to show the awesome power of the .223
Thoes stupid reality shows always have spin offs. Considering The Hayden's and RJF's past wih the ATF maybe this company will be next?

That sucks, but old news here in FL. When you provide a DL as ID to shoot at some ranges here in South Florida, you're ran while you shoot. A particular range has caught several felons that way.
If you're going to carry one weapon, might as well carry two, because as the saying goes, "Two is one, and one is none."

I don't think I have a problem with this. The state has a compelling interest to make sure felons aren't using firearms, and this range sounds like it's been in trouble before and is trying to play nice with the authorities.
Yeah...I don't have a problem here. Carry on.

Have never been to Badger Guns or any iterations of it and surely won't go after knowing about this. Shooters Shop in West Allis and Fletcher's in Waukesha are great places to go if you are looking for an indoor range. Nice and friendly people working there. Bader Guns just has a bad element attached to it and best to keep clear of that place.

Hmmmm didn't know that. No opinion on this one yet.

I think this is not legal and it is an invasion of your privacy. It is not legal to investigate a person no reason. This needs to be stopped.

And the People have a compelling interest in keeping its hirelings from breaching the 4A against unreasonable search/seizure. IMO, not justified and unconstitutional.
Broad-swath data slurps like this aren't any different from wholesale dumps of the telecom/internet traffic. Done on a one-by-one basis supported by warrant, I can see, when a specific person for specific cause is sought. But I can't see the lawful justification for such broad, non-specific scans like this.

Isn't Red Jacket now owned by one of their warehouse guys and didn't the father & daughter both get their FFLs revoked?
Haven't they gotten caught faking footage multiple times? (the daughter saying she was shooting a DE 50 cal & on tape you see the back end of a Beretta 92 come up on the recoil)

They Haydens have had their FFLs revoked but are still allowed to manage the store and I think there is a parent company too. As for who "owns" it now I have no clue.
The footage of Steph shooting a ".50 DE" switched to a Beretta 92 is obvious and hilarious!
Anyways sorry for jacking the thread, these guys just seem like a ringer for a new SOG Series.

My range runs a background check on everyone who shoots there unless they have a current CCW permit but they tell you in advance that it's their policy. Frankly I'm OK with the way they do it. I've got not interest in sharing the range with anyone who does not have the right to own a firearm. They also don't allow anyone in who even remotely looks like a gang banger. Also OK with me.
I would be very upset if the checking was done without my consent as seems to be happening in the range in this thread. I'm surprised anyone would go here after learning that had happened. I sure wouldn't.

This place has been under such heat from the police for straw purchases before they stopped selling firearms that they will just bend over and take it from DA and police chief to stay in business.
Never been there and never will. Drive by all the time and just keep on going!

I personally don't see the problem with that. I don't have anything to hide and i don't know why people are so paranoid.
