For years the Republicans ran the entire congress and the white house. They did nothing for our 2nd Amendment rights. Now we have a Republican candidate who signed a permanent "assault weapons" ban into law claiming he is a staunch advocate for our gun rights. Skunks do not change their color pattern.

Yep, an anti-gun governor who signed a permanent "assault weapons" ban now claims to be our pro-gun Messiah. Expect nothing from the Republicans in congress and the white house: You will not be disappointed.

Sig, you and I need to form our own political party. I might except I hate politics. Might be because both the Democraps and the Repugnicans make me sick with their lies and self-serving agendas. Hasn't been a statesman since Teddy Roosevelt.

Numerous Republican Reps in Congress... are behind and for these things. They have submitted bills on many of these, that can't get past the Senate. If the Senate were to become a majority Republican and were passed..... Romney has stated rather strongly that he would sign them. Will he go out and campaign hard for them, he wouldn't need to ... there are many in Congress that would. Our Reps have and would.... we know that from experience already.

But we also know if they were passed, that O-man wouldn't sign them.

Politicians will tell you whatever they think you want to hear so you'll carry their water and give them your vote. The only thing many believe in is "Power in their hands". After we've picked the least objectionable of the lot and given them the keys to the Kingdom our work really begins. It's up to us to ensure that the office holder believes in the core of their being that they will be voted out if we do not see tangible laws furthering the cause for which we appointed them.

And somehow you missed the most important question: Will the electorate hold their feet to the fire (assuming they get elected), or is just making pro-gun noises in the run-up to the campaign going to satisfy voters?

Fixed it for you. Republicans pass all sorts of bad crap in an attempt to get Dems to like them.

Until someone figures out how to push the reset button on the entire system, and get these career politicians and lawyers out of the congress (READ - term limits, and for the SCOTUS as well), one way or another we are all screwed, and not on just the 2A.

The POTUS candidates can make all the promises [joke] they want, it still has to be written, make it through both houses untainted with no surprise unrelated carriers, then signed.

Given key points on numerous issues by both candidates, I am personally hoping for another 4 year stalemate. We really need to clean the houses first.

We have to support and vote for Romney and Ryan, as the alternative is very grim! The GOP has a very strong pro gun platform, and we need to support them 100%. No ifs, ands or buts. Romney & Ryan, along with a majority in the congress and senate will insure gun owner rights as well as placing our country back on the track to prosperity.

What are "these things" of which you speak?

You think that we appoint politicians to make laws? How about appointing politicians to repeal bad laws?

Well, the Romney & Ryan comment is true for the swing states. Congress is going more Republican, anyway. The best clarification to compensate for the Great Society Welfare State is to require of all registered voters who receive entitlement payments to prove that those payments are less than their tax contributions. Some of you are hoping for new laws like it's Christmas or something. Less government is better for all.

Unless I missed something this week and Romney is running as a Democrat now, this is his platform. As the Republican Candidate he is bound by it.
I agree, but I doubt Romney, if elected, will fulfill the tenants of the GOP platform. Why should he? No other Republicans have. The platform is a great theory, what actually happens is entirely different.

Romney is center left a lot of the time, the things he says are to get votes. Don't count on a hard-line conservative vote coming from Romney.

The Democrat party platform says "We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. " Pretty much what the Mexican Constitution says.

Mexico is in great shape, isn't it?

Here's the 2A section of the Libertarian party platform. Found here: http://www.lp.org/platform

    1.6 Self-Defense

The only legitimate use of force is in defense of individual rights — life, liberty, and justly acquired property —against aggression. This right inheres in the individual, who may agree to be aided by any other individual or group. We affirm the individual right recognized by theSecondAmendmenttokeepandbeararms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense. We oppose all laws at any level of government requiring registration of, or restricting, the ownership, manufacture, ortransfer orsaleoffirearms or ammunition.
