Cook County mulling violence tax on guns and ammunition

Yeah, that'll reduce crime in that cesspool. Let's tax guns and ammo out of existence.

Why not tax breathing while you are at it so the poor just drop dead...

And be sure to make the tax high enough that the retailers will want to relocate to other jurisdictions and erode Cooke County's tax base even further! Brilliant!

If they could just get the thugs to pay sales tax on guns and ammuntion that would help their budget but G-dawg doesn't collect tax in the alley. Instead lets tax the law-abiding citizens who already subjected themselves to the unfair taxes of paying just for the card that allows them to purchase their 2nd amendment right wquipment. That town needs an enema!

Let's see...The city with some of the most restrictive gun laws and the nation's highes gun violence rate, in a state that doesn't allow concealed carry wants to tax the guns and ammo that nobody is suppose to have. Sounds about right for Chicago politics.

Wow, just when I thought they couldn't 'not get it' less.

Why would a criminal buy their guns at full retail when they can get one for the price of a pack of smokes from Joe Q Gangster down the street? Even if they did buy one it's probably with stolen money anyway, so again - punish the law abiding citizens!

How about a violence tax on knives, baseball bats, bricks, rocks, cars...?

Just like all gun restriction (control) laws, put the burden on the law-abiding people rather than the criminals.

As long as they are allowed to direct the blame anywhere but the source, they will continue to find scapegoats. Utterly pathetic. This is humanity in its dumbest form.

I agree with the above. The criminals and bad guys are not going to pay full purchase price for a new gun, when they can rob, steal, burglarize, mug, etc, and get away for 99% of the time, without getting apprehended. So why the tax? Stupid politicians in Chicago. Get a life!!

Chicago really needs to consider a "stupid tax", they would then have a surplus of tax revenue.

    Yes I do. I'm basically a one-man IRS.

IRTT - This fits in perfectly with their insane worldview. They just want to combine their favorite things - additional taxes and the villainization of firearms. While I don't wish harm on anyone, I hope these crazy politicians are someday able to see the irrationality of their ways, up close and personal.

You don't have to pay the tax if you steal the stuff!
