    Election over, U.N. back at arms trade treaty talks...

    Not sure how may are following this but the U.N. on Wednesday passed a resolution to revive stalled talks on global arms trade treaty, which many fear is some kind of global gun control. Never a dull moment...

    Won't happen. They require 2/3rds vote and our constitution does not allow it anyway.

    There is a portion of this forum that keeps saying not to worry about this. For some reason I'm finding it easy to ignore them. I'm very worried about the treaty. At 55-45 2/3 isn't a huge reach. The Supreme Court basically told us that they may just decide to let elected officials do as they please after the healthcare case. So yeah, I'll be watching it. Nothing I can do, but I will be watching it.

    Because we have been right all the time? Look, do you know why the ATT never got voted on by the General Assembly? Do yo know what other nations are against it? Do you even know what is in the treaty (that is an easy one-no, because no one does). Again, let us find out what would be in the treaty and then find out how it would affect the US and if the US would ratify it and if the SCOTUS would support any challenges.

    Ya know, I swear that the gun and ammo manufacturers put folks (not you) on gun forums to get folks excited.

    No, us folks don't have our heads in the sand nor are naive. But neither do we play the Chicken Little role every time an issue comes up. For folks (CC'ers) that profess to be able to think things through in a time of stress and can make a correct decision to draw and fire or do what ever we as a goup seem to get a tad excited over every possible thing that could happen to guns rights without even understanding the issues.

    And here is the thing that cracks me up more than anything else. A lot of what supposse to be in the ATT can be done by nations right now just by banning exports of firearms and ammo made in their countries. They do not needno stupid treaty to limit the amount of arms imported to the US and the amount exported. And as far as exporting who cares, that is not a 2A issue anyway. It is a commerce issue.

    I do support the NRA as its a strong tool and voice in Washington but the NRA is also self sufficient with all the stuff they sell. Im not aware of the precentage of income generated is from the sales. Money is money and propaganda is propaganda. With the NRA each one feeds off the other. I doubt the UN will ever get this to happen especially right after a national election and the major supporter Hilliary Clinton is likely to step down. A treaty must be ratified by a 2/3 vote. An attempt to pass would be political suicide. There are plenty of gun toting liberals that love there guns as much as I do mine. I have one in the family that won't keep his hands off my toys. You'd see a UN fleeing to more friendly surroundings if they tried. At least that's what I'd like to see happen.

    Some folks have not been paying attention. The Senate has a majority, not 2/3 rds. Like a previous poster said, many liberals out there own guns and they will not forgive their senator if they vote for restrictive gun laws.

    Yep and they make their own rules these days. I would be concerned! Never thought we would have a "Tax"/Penelty for healthcare either.. We are moving towards a differnt country my friends..

    "We seek a treaty that contributes to international security by fighting illicit arms trafficking and proliferation, protects the sovereign right of states to conduct legitimate arms trade, and meets the concerns that we have been articulating throughout," the official said.


    "We will not accept any treaty that infringes on the constitutional rights of our citizens to bear arms," he said.

    U.S. officials have acknowledged privately that the treaty under discussion would have no effect on domestic gun sales and ownership because it would apply only to exports.



    ...this is why I'm not concerned.
